DIGITAL Software Product Description ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT NAME: DIGITAL DECforms Web Connector, Version 1.0 SPD 70.35.00 DESCRIPTION The DIGITAL DECforms Web Connector is a layered software product that provides transparent Web access to interactive applications, running on OpenVMS systems, where DIGITAL DECforms for OpenVMS was used to im- plement the forms-based user interface. The DECforms Web Connector provides: o Web access to existing character-cell terminal-based applications without significant programming or application modifications. o A cost-effective method to preserve application system investments and extend the life of existing applications. o A flexible migration path towards graphical user interfaces based on a Windows environment. The DECforms Web Connector operates in a three-tier networked envi- ronment consisting of an OpenVMS back-end system, Web server middle- tier implemented using Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), and a Web browser interactive user tier. The application program remains on the OpenVMS system. The DECforms OpenVMS run-time component operates in conjunction with the DECforms Web Connector Session Manager and Display Manager components. The Ses- sion Manager runs on IIS and manages the application sessions between the DECforms run-time component on the OpenVMS system and the Display September 1998 AE-RES7A-TE Manager applet that is downloaded to the Web browser. A remote pro- cedure call (RPC) mechanism is used for all intercomponent communi- cation. FEATURES The DECforms Web Connector: o Preserves the look and feel of the existing user interface o Provides concurrent operation with existing character-cell, terminal- based applications o Enables the usage of generic Windows graphical user interface fea- tures such as push buttons, scrolling, and mouse clicks o Uses existing character-cell terminal Independent Form Description Language (IFDL) layouts o Reflects changes in the user interface transparently and immedi- ately o Provides a "watchdog" processes to ensure access to applications on OpenVMS systems o Provides encryption for all user-entered passwords o Provides load balancing and failover to alternate OpenVMS nodes when starting an application o Provides user-controlled security using encryption with a 40-bit key o Provides logging capabilities for auditing and record keeping Management Interface The WSConfig configuration utility program is provided to set and mod- ify operational parameters including: o DECforms application file name(s) o OpenVMS node(s) associated with each application 2 o Display attributes such as background and foreground colors, screen size, font, and font size o Encryption options o Logging options Documentation The DECforms Web Connector provides the following documentation: o DIGITAL DECforms Guide to the Web Connector- Describes how to use the DECforms Web Connector software product. o DIGITAL DECforms Installation Guide for OpenVMS Systems-Describes how to install DECforms for OpenVMS, which is required to use the DECforms Web Connector. o Release Notes-Contains information specific to this release and ad- ditional information added after the production date for the other product documents. The Release Notes are available on line as part of the Run-Time Server software package. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS The DECforms Web Connector runs on all Intel systems that can run the Windows NT operating system. Disk Space Requirements Installing DECforms Web Connector requires 10 MB of free disk space. This size is approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration, and software options. 3 Memory Requirements For Windows NT, the minimum memory supported is 32 MB. However, us- ing this software with increased memory capability may improve per- formance. For the DECforms Web Connector, DIGITAL recommends 64 MB. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS Software required on OpenVMS systems with DECforms applications that will be accessed using the DECforms Web Connector: o DIGITAL DECforms for OpenVMS, Version 3.0, or later (SPD 29.90.09) o DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS, Version 4.1 plus ECO 8 or 4.2 (SPD 46.46.xx) o RPC run-time component from DIGITAL Distributed Computing Environ- ment (DCE) Version 1.4 for OpenVMS (SPD 43.05.xx) Software required on all Windows NT systems running the DECforms Web Connector: o Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 o Microsoft Internet Information Server Version 3.0 o Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM) Build 2829 or later Software required on all Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT desk- top systems that will access a DECforms application using the DECforms Web Connector: o Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM) Build 2829 or later running with Microsoft Internet Explorer V3.02, or V4.01 or later. GROWTH CONSIDERATIONS The minimum hardware and software requirements for any future version of this product may be different from the requirements for the cur- rent version. 4 YEAR 2000 READY Because the DECforms Web Connector operates as an input and presen- tation services extension to the DECforms run-time environment on OpenVMS, Year 2000 readiness is derived from DECforms for OpenVMS. DECforms for OpenVMS is Year 2000 ready. A definable sliding window capability for interpretation of two digit years on input is provided. Testing has been done with the Year 2000 ready versions of OpenVMS. Refer to the DIGITAL DECforms for OpenVMS SPD 29.90.xx for additional information. SOFTWARE LICENSING Both a Run-Time Server License and a Client Access License (CAL) are required to use the DECforms Web Connector software. Access to DECforms applications on an OpenVMS system is controlled by the quantity of the Client Access License purchased. One user accessing one DECforms application on an OpenVMS system de- fines a DECforms Client Connection and requires one (1) Client Access License. The maximum number of simultaneous DECforms Client Connec- tions will govern the quantity of the Client Access License required. This software is furnished under the licensing provisions of Digital Equipment Corporation's Standard Terms and Conditions. Run-Time Server License/Media/Documentation: QB-66HAA-SA Consists of a CD-ROM containing the software binaries and online documentation, the hard copy documentation, a Run-Time Server Li- cense, and a quantity one (1) Client Access License. The Run-Time Server License permits the installation, testing, and tuning of the run-time software on a single system, and the Client Access License permits access to one DECforms application on an OpenVMS system. License Only: QM-66H9A-AA Consists of a Run-Time Server License permitting the installation, testing, and tuning of the run-time software on a single system. Client Access License Only: QM-66J9A-A* Consists of a Client Access License to permit up to the specified number of DECforms Client Connections to simultaneous access, us- ing a single Windows NT server or cluster, DECforms applications on multiple OpenVMS systems. This license is available in quanti- ties of 1, 20, 50, 200, and unlimited. Migration License Only: QM-66J9A-A* Consists of a Client Access License to permit the upward migration from any CAL usage level to any other level, for example from 50 to 200. * Denotes variant fields.
