                             Section 1
                             =========

    The NICDIAG utility is a diagnostic tool which allows you to test DEPEA
    Ethernet controller devices. NICDIAG works in unison with DEPEARD.COM.
    DEPEARD.COM must be in the same directory as NICDIAG to run diagnostics.

    To execute the NICDIAG utility change your drive(e.g. cd a:\) to the
    top level directory of this distribution media. Then enter NICDIAG at
    the DOS prompt. The utility is completely menu driven and contains help
    for each option at the bottom of the screen. The bottom line of the screen
    will always contain the valid keys needed to execute the options.

    The NICDIAG utility will allow up to three controller device to be
    configured at a time. For simplicity sake however, you may wish to install
    and test one device at a time.

    The format to invoke NICDIAG is

    A:\NICDIAG [pmode=x]

                where pmode parameter is optional.

                x = 1 for Uni-Direction mode
                x = 2 for Bi-Direction mode
                x = 3 for EPP mode

                                USER NOTES
                                ----------

    When running NICDIAG diagnostics with the DEPEA-B3 on Thinwire, it is
    necessary for the BNC (network) connector to be terminated with a
    T-connector and two 50 ohm terminators. If this is not done, NICDIAG
    will display a "Loopback Error" message. Also, full diagnostics including
    Loopback cannot be properly run on a live network. Running diagnostics
    while the DEPEA-B3 is on a live network may also give "Loopback Error"
    messages.

    NICDIAG will not allow diagnostics to be run when it detects that the
    DEPEA device is 'active'. The DEPEA device is considered active if a
    network device driver was loaded. It may be necessary to remove the
    statement that loads the device driver in CONFIG.SYS or other file and
    power cycle the DEPEA to 'deactivate' the DEPEA device.

 o Change (cd) your directory to: /pub/micro/msdos/network (*lowercase*)
 o Select "ftp> i" for image mode
 o Perform an "ftp> get" on the file depeavxx.zip (contains all driver files)

To obtain DEPEA latest driver files from CompuServe perform the following:
==========================================================================
