Installing the DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA/PCI Firmware Upgrade Utility (DECblast)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perform the following steps to install DECblast:

1. Verify that the FDDI network interface card (NIC) is properly
configured and installed. Refer to "DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA
Installation" or "DEC FDDIcontroller/PCI User Information"
for instructions. Do not load a device driver.

2. Verify that the DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA/PCI LAN device driver has
not been loaded. The system should be running DOS locally or in
    a DOS box on OS/2 2.1.

3. Change your current directory to an appropriate area on your hard disk
where the DECblast files are to be stored. ( Example C:\DECBLAST ).
You must create this directory if it does not exist already.
Enter the following command to copy the DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA Firmware
Upgrade Utility (DECblast) to the DOS workstation:

Note: The command lines below assume that your DECblast diskette
is located in drive A:. If your DECblast diskette is located in
another drive, then substitute the appropriate drive letter for
	the A:.

    COPY A:\DECBLAST.EXE

4. Enter the following commands to copy the firmware image files to the
    DOS workstation:

Note: The command lines below assume that your DECblast diskette
is located in drive A:. If your DECblast diskette is located in
another drive, then substitute the appropriate drive letter for
	the A:.

    COPY A:\DFEAA.130
    COPY A:\DFEAB.310
    COPY A:\DFXAA.310

5. Run the DECblast application.

    a. To run DECblast, enter the following:

       DECBLAST.EXE

       A. Licensing information will appear and should be agreed upon if the
necessary hardware has been purchased. DECblast will then display
all DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA/PCI modules found in the current system.
DECblast will then prompt the user to enter the board number of the
controller to be updated. Choose the appropriate board number.

       B. DECblast will then prompt for the firmware image filename. Check
the file listed under "Previously BLASTed Filename" of the slot
to be updated. If it begins with DFEAA.xxx then enter DFEAA.130.
If the filename begins with DFEAB.xxx then enter DFEAB.310. If it
begins with DFXAA.xxx then enter DFXAA.310. If an invalid filename
is entered, or if the file cannot be found, DECblast will not
perform the update and reprompt the user for the correct filename.

       C. After both a valid board number and filename have been entered,
DECblast will update the controller with the firmware image. When
	  completed, the screen will display:

		Loaded 100 percent.
		Blasting the adapter...Adapter blasted successfully.

    b. The controller has been updated successfully, another update may be
performed, or RETURN may be entered to exit the utility.
