IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ADOBE POSTSCRIPT FAX UTILITIES

This document contains some important reminders and some information
that is not in the Adobe PostScript Fax utilities guide.

That manual, which comes with the fax utilities, contains detailed
installation instructions, which should be reviewed prior to installing
this software.

INSTALLATION ITEMS

To use delayed fax, group fax or local copy functions, PSFAXQ must be
loaded from the DOS prompt before PSFAX. For example,

C:\PSFAX\PSFAXQ (Enter)
C:\PSFAX\PSFAX (Enter)

The Install program can optionally change your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to
include these commands automatically.

If you are installing the software to run on a network, set PSFAX to
print to your capture port.

FILES INSTALLED AND WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED

All files for the fax utilities are normally stored in a directory
called \PSFAX.

The Adobe PostScript Fax Utility allows you to override your printer's
built-in cover page and/or page caption with customized cover pages and
page captions. These optional customized files are specially written
PostScript files that can add flexibility to any PostScript fax printer.

To locate and use these files, please follow these simple steps:

1. Determine which directory on your hard disk you would like to store
the PostScript files. (Typically \PSFAX.)

2. Use standard Windows or DOS copy commands to copy all files from the
PostScript Fax installation disk that end in ".PS" (e.g. CAPTION.PS) to
the directory you selected.

GENERAL COMPATIBILITY ISSUES

Sending Faxes on a NetWare Network with Local Copy or Delay on Computer

Important: When faxing to a printer which is hooked up via a Novell
queue and Local Copy, Delay on Computer, or Broadcast on Computer is
selected, set a time-out value either in the Windows Control Panel,
Printers section or with the Capture command in DOS. An initial time-out
value of 15 seconds is recommended.

If you do not have a time-out set as described above, to have a local
copy of your fax printed on the sending printer, send the fax with Local
Copy selected. Then, exit your application and from the DOS prompt type
the ENDCAP /n command, where /n is the printer port number. Your fax is
then sent and your local copy is printed.

Consult your NetWare documentation for additional information about
using the ENDCAP command.

When Delay on Computer Prints Two Banner Pages

When you have banner pages enabled and select Delay on Computer on a
NetWare network, you may see two banner pages printed instead of one.
You can avoid this problem by turning off the banner page within
NetWare.

When Delay on Computer is Set Between 12:00PM and 12:59PM

If you set Delay on Computer to have a value between 12:00PM and
12:59PM, the fax software converts the PM to an AM. To avoid this
problem set Delay on Computer to values other than the range 12:00PM and
12:59PM.

USING THE FAX SOFTWARE WITH WINDOWS APPLICATIONS

Quark XPress 3.2

When you fax collated copies, paper may be drawn from the wrong tray.
The first copy is printed on paper drawn from the correct tray, but the
second copy is drawn from the cassette feeder.

Aldus PageMaker 5

You cannot select the LaserWriter 16/600 PS in PageMaker's Type pull-
down menu. As a substitute, you can choose the Apple LaserWriter Pro
630. However, you will be unable to fax because the fax capability is
not available for the Apple LaserWriter Pro 630.

USING THE FAX SOFTWARE WITH DOS APPLICATIONS

Fax Pop-Up Menu Does Not Appear

In certain applications, such as Microsoft Works 3.0, Quattro Pro 5.0,
and Lotus 1-2-3 3.0, the Hot Key sequence to bring up the Fax pop-up
menu does not function. To send a fax from such applications, activate
the Fax pop-up menu to enable the fax software, then run the
application. The next job you print from the application will be sent as
a fax.

Microsoft Works 3.0

Microsoft Works 3.0 is incompatible in PostScript mode with the fax
software. Use an alternate mode if you wish to fax from Microsoft Works
3.0.
