	Installing DS/P Software
		and
Configuring LN17 Series Printers for DS/P

	Version 2.0 - October 1, 1995
	-------------------------------------------------------------------

	-------------------------------------------------------------------
	Installation Overview
	-------------------------------------------------------------------

This document will take you through a complete installation which
	includes the following:

	      - Installing DS/P software components on a file server or on
		a client workstation.

	      - Installing and using the DS/P UTILITY to configure Digital
		LN17 Series printers for DS/P.

	      - Using SETUP to configure your workstation for those DS/P
components you want to run and configure your NetWare
		printing environment.

Installing DS/P software components is a two step process.

	      - Step One. Copies the master files to the destination
drive. To allow easy distribution of the DS/P software
components to users, it is suggested that the components
be installed from the diskettes to a file server where
users can access the DOSSETUP or WINSETUP programs.
Users may then install the DS/P software components
from the file server instead of from the diskettes.

	      - Step Two. Run DOSSETUP.EXE or WINSETUP.EXE to create the
system files and/or generate the Windows icons for RUI and
SMS (and UTILITY and SETUP if desired) on the client
		workstation.

For an initial installation from diskette:

	- Install the master files by running DOSSETUP.BAT or WINSETUP.BAT
from diskette #1. The software will prompt the user to insert
	  diskettes #2 and #3.

	- You will be prompted to run DS/P Utility. If you are only
installing software (and will not configure any Digital LN17 Series
printers), answer NO to running the DS/P Utility.

	- Finally, the software will run DS/P SETUP to install DS/P
software components and configure networked LN17 Series printers.

For additional help while running DS/P SETUP or DS/P UTILITY, press
the F1 function key at any time.

	-------------------------------------------------------------------
	Installing DS/P From Diskette
	-------------------------------------------------------------------

	CAUTION:
If your NetWare Operating System's CLIB.NLM patches are
not up to revision level F (2Feb94) or later, you must
upgrade your file server for DS/P to be operational.
CLIB (2Feb94) files are installed from diskette to the
		\XDSP\CLIB directory.

	- Make sure your system meets the memory requirements.

	- Have the following items installed and functioning:
		- NetWare 3.1x or NetWare 4.x (BEM).
		- Make sure the printers are on-line and attached to the
		  network.

	- On networks with more than 25 file servers, configure the
network cards in the printers to use either a Preferred
or Required File Server. We suggest that you configure
the cards to use a Preferred File Server. See Chapter 3,
"Setting Required/Preferred File Server Mode" in the
	   DNIC E'NET Configuration Guide.

	- Ensure that you are logged in to the network as SUPERVISOR or
ADMIN, and ensure that the NetWare CLIB.NLM is at least
version F (2Feb94). If you are unsure of the CLIB.NLM
version, contact your System Administrator or type
"DIR CLIB.NLM" from the system directory to verify 2Feb94
date or later. A copy of CLIB.NLM will be stored in the
XDSP\CLIB directory after installation and is available
	   for your use.

	- Fill out the DS/P UTILITY Worksheet located in the Appendix A
of the Document Services for Printing Guide.

Hint: The current printer name can be obtained from the
		printer's configuration sheet.

Follow these steps to install DS/P and to configure NetWare
	printers:

	1. Insert the Document Services for Printing diskette #1
	    in drive A (or B).

	2. For DOS users, change to drive A: (or B:), and then type:
DOSSETUP drive: (the destination drive for DS/P) <ENTER>.

For Windows users, exit to the DOS prompt, change to drive
	    A:(or B:), and then type: WINSETUP <ENTER>.

Enter the destination drive when prompted. (To support
multiple network users, you may wish to install DS/P onto a
file server to facilitate the subsequent installation of
	    DS/P onto individual client workstations.)

	3. In the Installation Options window, press the YES button to
run the DS/P UTILITY if you want to:
		a) Enable DS/P and set or modify the timer value on the
printer's DNIC card. (This process may take up to 3
		   minutes.)
		b) Add or Modify the printer's accounting option and cost
per page/cost per sheet value. (This updates the
configuration file, XDSP.CFG, residing on the SYS:XEROX
		   subdirectory of the file server.)
		c) Rename a printer. (This step may take up to 5 minutes.)

Otherwise, select NO and skip to Section B.

	-------------------------------------------------------------------
Section A: Running the DS/P UTILITY
	-------------------------------------------------------------------

	1. Refer to your filled-out DS/P UTILITY Worksheet (from Appendix A
of the Document Services for Printing Guide), and select a printer.

	2. Select a free COM port (required by the DNIC card).

	3. Select and Login to a file server.

	4. To change the printer's name:
		- Select the printer from the Printer Name list and press
		  the Rename Printer button.

Note: The printer being renamed must not be in use.

		  CAUTION:
Changing the printer's name also changes the
server name for TCP/IP and DEC LAT. Any print
queues attached to the old name are not
automatically attached to the new name. You
can use SETUP to attach these queues to the
			new name on NetWare.

		- Enter the new name. The name cannot exceed 16
characters and must end with "_1", such as
		  "RM312_1".

		- Press the OK button, and wait for the message to clear.

Repeat this step for each printer you wish to rename.

	5. To add or update information needed by DS/P for a printer:
		- Select the appropriate printer from the Printer Name
list, and press the Add Printer button. Enter the
		  following, if desired:
			- Enter printer description
			- Enable DS/P Accounting
			- Enter Cost per Page
			- Enter Cost per Sheet
			- Change Timer value

Repeat this step for all printers for which you want to add or
update DS/P information. There is a limit of 16 printers per
	    file server.

	6. Login to any other file server on which you wish to install
XDSP.NLM (see Section C), and repeat steps 4 and 5.
		- If Timer = 0, you should define a backup Service
		  Coordinator.

Note: If Timer=0, nothing prints through DNIC unless
			XDSP.NLM is loaded.

		- If you configure a backup Service Coordinator, the
printer should be configured the same way on each Service
Coordinator. On each Service Coordinator, enter the same
values for Description, Enable Accounting, Cost per Page,
Cost per Sheet and Timer Value.

Hint: When using a backup Service Coordinator for the
same set of printers, an easy way to do this is
to copy the config file (XDSP.CFG) to the
SYS:\XEROX directory of the file server on which
the backup Service Coordinator will be loaded.

	7. Press the Exit button to exit the Utility and SETUP will be
launched to install DS/P software and set up printers in the
	    NetWare environment.

	-------------------------------------------------------------------
	Section B: Running DS/P SETUP
	-------------------------------------------------------------------

After SETUP starts, enter your User ID information and proceed to
the SETUP Options window to install client software.

	1. In the SETUP Options window, Status and Mgmt Svcs is selected as
the default for installation. Remote User Interface as well as
SETUP and UTILITY can also be selected at this time.

A default destination directory is also displayed. Make changes,
if required, then press the Continue button. The Login to a
	    File Server window appears.

	2. If you do not want to configure printers for a file server, choose
cancel and skip to step 4.

Otherwise, login to the file server where the printers should be
configured. The Novell NetWare Printer Settings window appears.

	3. To configure printers:
		- Select a file server
		- Select a printer
		- Press Notify to set the notification parameters
		- Press Other to install the same PSERVER on other file
		  servers
		- Press Create/Delete to create or delete queues
		- Press Attach/Detach to attach or detach queues

Note: (NetWare 4.x DOS users only) Install the printer or
printers using the NetWare 4.x installation
instructions in the XNIC-E'NET or XNIC-T'RING
		       Configuration Guide.

Note: Either power each printer Off/On or down its
PSERVER from PCONSOLE to re-initialize its
DNIC card and to allow print server configurations
(such as print queue attachments) to take effect in
		       NetWare.

	4. In the Done window:
		- Press the "Read README.TXT" button if you wish to read
		  the README.TXT file.
		- Press the Exit button to exit the DS/P SETUP program.

	-------------------------------------------------------------------
Section C: Loading the XDSP.NLM (Service Coordinator) and
		     Distributing DS/P to Clients
	-------------------------------------------------------------------

	1. Copy XDSP.NLM from the XDSP directory on the file server to
the SYS:\SYSTEM directory of each desired file server. Then
load the Service Coordinator by typing "LOAD XDSP.NLM" and
pressing ENTER from the system console ":" prompt on each
	    file server.

	2. Distribute DS/P software to Clients. If the DS/P
software is installed on a file server, Clients can run
either WINSETUP.EXE for Windows users or DOSSETUP.EXE for
DOS users from the file server to install the software
locally or create icons to run DS/P from the network.
