       * Environment Requirements
       * Reinstallations
       * Warnings

       ---------------------------
	 Environment Requirements
       ---------------------------

		386 or greater

The minimum available memory needed is:
DS/P in DOS environment: 2 MB memory with a minimum of
		1 MB extended.

10 MB of hard disk space is needed for a complete installation.

	Display:
		VGA or better

	Operating System:
		DOS 5.0 through 6.22
		Windows 3.1 (enhanced mode)
		Windows for Workgroups 3.1, 3.11

Network Adapter (optional for network printing):
		Netware Workstation compatible.

	Network Operating System:
Netware version 3.x, or 4.x (Bindery Emulation Mode)
Netware CLIB.NLM patches ver F (2Feb94) or later

	Network Interface Card:
DNIC-E'NET (Digital Network Interface Card for Ethernet)

       ---------------------------
	Reinstallations
       ---------------------------

       * User should not attempt to re-install the DS/P software while
executing previously installed versions of the software.

       * As a precaution, if you have a previous version of the DS/P software
installed, we suggest you save the previous verson by renaming the
XDSP directory (for example, rename the directory to XDSPOLD) instead
of overwriting the previous version. After successful installation
and usage of the new version, you may delete the previous version of
	 DS/P.

       -------------------
	 Warnings
       -------------------

       * The DOS versions of DS/P software should not be run from the
	 Windows environment.

       * If the user encounters any problems while running the
SETUP software under third-party desktop environments, it
is suggested that the software be executed under the Windows'
	 program manager desktop.

       * If your NetWare Operating System's CLIB.NLM patches are not up
to revision level F (2Feb94) or later, you must upgrade your
file server for DS/P to be operational. CLIB (2Feb94) files
are installed from diskette to the \XDSP\CLIB directory.

       * The Digital Postscript driver default is to send binary data
and use the default protocol option. To use the Digital Postscript
driver with DS/P, this must be changed. From any DS/P Windows
Help screen, click the Contents button, choose the Status and
Management Services jump, then choose Select Installed Printer
Driver. In the NOTE under the Installed Printer Drivers paragraph,
click Setting Postscript Data Flow and Protocol for step-by-step
	 instructions.

       * Do not use the Hot Key (Ctrl-Alt-P) to start DOS SMS or receive
popup alert messages over DOS applications, as it may crash
	 the system.

       * Do not use the Print Screen key in DOS DS/P SETUP, DOS DS/P Utility,
or DOS DS/P RUI, as it may crash the system.

       * If using EMM386, to ensure compatibility between DS/P and EMM386,
add the following line to CONFIG.SYS.
		 DEVICE = EMM386.EXE FRAME=NONE X=A000-C7FF

       * It is recommended that HPGL mode in the PCL5e driver be
used to print the SMS graphs.

       * X-NIC information on the Configuration sheet is lost after
renaming the printer using DS/P until the printer is turned
	 off then on.

       * When queues are created under NetWare 3.1x, the group "EVERYONE" is
automatically assigned to "QUEUE USERS". NetWare 4.x does not have
a group such as "EVERYONE", so the system administrator may have to
use a utility such as PCONSOLE to assign users for the printer's
	 queue.

To avoid using PCONSOLE, make sure you are logged in ONLY to the 4.x
file server where you wish to create queues and that you are in the
correct directory context that is running Bindery Emulation. Then,
when you execute the Windows version of DS/P Setup, the users in this
context are automatically assigned as users of the queue(s) you
	 created in DS/P Setup.

       * To create queues on a 4.x server, please insert the following line in
	 the NET.CFG file:

		Name Context = "MYCONTEXT"

where MYCONTEXT is the name of the Bindery context on the 4.x server.

       * SMS may appear to 'hang' for up to four minutes until it times out when
scrolling past UNIX queues if the attached printer is offline.

       * In RUI, hot keys and the mouse behave differently under certain
conditions. For example, if a button has been greyed out in a tab
folder, using <Alt>+O instead of clicking the OK button with the
mouse cursor will close the tab folder window.

       * Printer names should be limited to 12 characters in order to be legible
	 when printing SMS Accounting graphs.

       * When using Windows for Workgroups v3.11, do not use the protocol drivers:
		- IPX/SPX Compatible Transport with NETBIOS, or
		- IPX/SPX Compatible Transport
Conflicts generated with SMS may cause your system to reboot or otherwise
	 become disabled.

       * To setup a workstation to use DS/P applicatons located on a
file server, from the DS/P SETUP - Options window, click
the Change... button and choose the network drive where DS/P
has been previously installed. No files will be copied to your
hard disk, but icons will be generated that use the network
	 files.

       * In the File Server drop-down list box in the Novell NetWare Printer
Settings window, you must use the Enter key or click the mouse to
	 select a highlighted file server.

       * When using RUI to connect locally to a LN17 where Disk
Spooling has just been turned off, you may have to wait several
moments for the printer to re-establish a connection.

       * When using the Digital PostScript driver, the following problems
	 occur:
	 1. The driver cannot be installed using SMS. Please follow the
installation instructions printed on the driver diskette.
	 2. The first time the default printer driver is selected using
SMS, a "Successful Driver Installation" message appears.
