This archive contains a compressed tar file (HS_TAR.Z) containing the 
UNIX host software for your DIGITAL Laser Printer LN40. Use this command
to uncompress the file:

	uncompress hs_tar.Z

The UNIX_HSW directory in the tar archive includes a file (README) that 
gives complete installation instructions for several UNIX operating 
systems. See Chapter 4 of the "DIGITAL Laser Printer LN40 Network System
Administrator's Guide" for more information about using the UNIX host
software for your DIGITAL Laser Printer LN40.

The following instructions are for installing the UNIX host software and
configuring a printer queue on a Digital UNIX system.

Installing LN40 UNIX Software on Digital UNIX

For DIGITAL UNIX, you will have to install the UNIX Software and create a
BSD remote queue pointing at each printer to which you want to print. 
Queues can be created using the lprsetup utility. You must have superuser 
privileges to run lprsetup.

 1 Select a directory on your UNIX system where you want to extract the
   UNIX host software files. a directory on which you will mount the CDROM.

 2 Change to that directory and copy the HS_TAR.Z file to that directory.

 3 Uncompress the file.

	uncompress hs_tar.Z

 4 Extract the tar files from the archive.

	tar xvf hs_tar

 5 Change to the newly created directory UNIX_HSW.

	cd UNIX_HSW

 6 Run the installation script (QINSTALL).

	./Qinstall

 7 Follow the instructions displayed on your screen.

 8 Copy the following files to the standard UNIX locations.

	cp qpr /usr/sbin
	cp man/qpr /usr/man
 
 9 Add the printer's name and Internet address to your system's 
   /etc/hosts file.

10 Create a BSD remote queue for the printer using lprsetup. (You
   must have superuser privileges to run lprsetup.) The following
   is example output of running lprsetup.

	/usr/sbin/lprsetup (you must be super user to run lprsetup)
	command <add modify delete exit view quit help> add
	Enter printer name to add    hit return
	Enter full name of one of the following printer types   remote
	Enter printer synonym  Enter a name that youll remember
	Enter printer synonym   Enter return
	Set spooler directory    Enter return
	Set printer error log file  Enter return
	Set remote system name  Enter the printers name as defined in /etc/hosts
	Set remote system printer name  Enter anything, this is ignored
	The name of printcap symbols  Enter mx
	Enter a new value for symbol mx     Enter 0
	New mx is 0 is this correct?    Enter y
	Enter symbol name	  Enter a q when you are done
	Are these the final values for printer <#>	      Enter y
	Do you want to add comments to the printcap file     Enter y or n
	command <add modify delete exit view quit help> exit
