ES45 Option Firmware via Floppy Diskette
Update Option Firmware Procedure

Use this method only if your AlphaServer system does not have a CD drive. If your system has a CD drive please create a bootable firmware CD from the .iso image available from the Alpha Systems Firmware Web Site. Updating firmware from CD will save you time.

Update Option Firmware from Floppy Diskette

To update option firmware requires the following diskettes:

  • SRM Floppy Diskette which contains the Loadable Firmware Utility
  • Option Firmware Diskette 1 Zip
  • Option Firmware Diskette 2 Zip
Download and Extract Option Firmware ZIP Files
Option firmware contents for each floppy diskette is listed in es45io.txt.
There is a separate txt file for each option firmware diskette.

Load and Update Option Firmware
Enter text or invoke action highlighted in bold type.

  • Insert the SRM floppy diskette
  • Invoke the Bootable Floppy Diskette at the SRM prompt to invoke the LFU
    P00>>> lfu
    The LFU will respond with the following prompt:
    If you want to load the options firmware, please enter the device on which
    the files are located(dva0),or just hit [return] to proceed with a standard
    console update:     [Type dva0 then press the Enter Key]

    Please enter the name of the options firmware files list, or
    Hit [return] to use the default filename (es45io.txt) :

  •  Insert Options Diskette 1 then press the Enter Key

    The LFU reads the es45io.txt file then loads the option firmware into memory.
    (Example only - versions will be different in actual use)

    Copying es45io.txt from dva0. . .
    Copying KZPSAA12 from dva0. . .
    Copying FC2382A1 from dva0. . .
    Copying FC8100X2 from dva0. . .
    Copying KG8382A1 from dva0. . .
    Copying KG7320X7 from dva0. . .
    Copying KZPDC340 from dva0. . .

    Please insert next floppy containing the options firmware,
    Hit [return] when ready. Or type DONE to abort.

  • Insert Option diskette 2 then Press the Enter Key
    Copying DFXAA320 from dva0. . .

    Exit Done exit LFU (reset).
    List Lists the device, revision, firmware name, and update revision.
    Update Replaces current firmware with loadable data image.
    Verify Compares loadable and hardware images.
