Add or Modify Soft Partition

The Add or Modify Soft Partition dialog box displays when you press the Add or Modify button on the Soft Partitions and Memory Assignments dialog box. The Add or Modify Soft Partition dialog box can be reached only if you select OpenVMS Galaxy as the operating system in the Add or Modify Hard Partition dialog box.

The OpenVMS Galaxy operating system supports multiple soft partitions. If the operating system type running on a partition is OpenVMS Galaxy, the Soft Partitions button at the bottom of the Add or Modify a Hard Partition dialog box is activated. You can click on it to use the Add or Modify Soft Partition dialog box to create additional soft partitions.

The Add or Modify Soft Partition dialog box displays a list of Available hard partition resources in the block on the left side of the window that may be added to the soft partition you are modifying or creating. Any resources already assigned to the soft partition you are modifying or creating appear in Resources assigned to this partition in the block at the right of the window.

In the Hard partition resources block, select the duo to add to the soft partition and click Add>. The duo moves to the Resources assigned to this partition block.

Select a duo in the Resources assigned to this partition block and click <Remove to delete that duo from the soft partition you are modifying or creating and place it back in Hard partition resources. The duo returns to its previously assigned partition.

Note: If you add a duo that is currently assigned to another partition and later remove it, the duo is placed back in the original partition; it is not left unassigned.

APW provides feedback on the validity of a partition. APW uses these rules to check validity:

Each partition must have a console and PCI drawer connection
Each partition must have a CPU
Each partition must have memory

If the icon below the right-hand box is an X, there is a problem with your proposed partition.

The following table explains the fields in this dialog box.

Name	Console name of the soft partition you are adding or modifying.

Available hard partition resources

Duo	Dual-processor module or filler available to add to the partition.
CPUs	CPUs in the duo available to add to the soft partition.
Mem (MB)	Memory (in MB) in the duo available to add to the soft partition.
I/O	I/O of the duo available to add to the soft partition.
Partition	Present partition of the duo available to add to the soft partition.

Add>	Add the selected duo to the soft partition.
<Remove	Remove the selected duo from the soft partition.

Resources assigned to this partition

Duo	Duo assigned to this soft partition.
CPUs	CPUs in the Duo assigned to this soft partition.
Memory (MB)	Memory (in MB) in the Duo assigned to this soft partition.
I/O	I/O of the Duo assigned to this soft partition.
Total	Totals of each column of resources assigned to this soft partition.

Partition Name

Name of the soft partition you are adding or modifying.

OK	Commit all information entered.
Cancel	Cancel all entries without committing them.
