The OpenVMS Galaxy operating system supports multiple soft partitions. If the operating system type running on a partition is OpenVMS Galaxy, the "Soft Partitions" button at the bottom of the Add or Modify a Hard Partition dialog box is activated. You can click on it to use the Soft Partitions and Memory Assignments dialog box to manage multiple soft partitions.
Shared memory is for the entire partition, and you can apply what you enter by pressing return or Apply.
Memory assigned to the selected partition is updated when you select a partition in the table. You can change the Assigned (MB) column by entering a value and pressing return or entering a value and pressing the Apply button. The Auto button resets the selected partition to Automatic.
The Mem (MB) column shows the amount of memory physically located on Duos assigned to the soft partition. The Assigned (MB) column shows the instructions to the firmware about how to assign memory. Memory assignments are rounded up to 64 MB boundaries. The firmware will either assign a specific amount or automatically divide remaining memory among soft partitions without a specific amount. If the hard partition is powered on and some memory is unassigned, then the remaining memory is divided equally among Soft Partitions set to Automatic memory assignment.
The progressive slider bar shows the amount of memory assigned out of the total amount of memory within the hard partition.
