There are two utilities that can be used to manage partitions.
APW is a user-friendly graphical interface utility dedicated to partitioning an AlphaServer ES47, ES80, GS1280, GS80, GS160, or GS320 platform. APW uses a wizard-style graphical user interface that leads the user through steps for creating or modifying partitions.
APW is recommended for users who are not familiar with the partitioning architecture of the AlphaServer systems and who need the assurance of validation prior to committing the changes to firmware. Based on user input and a platform’s configuration, the user is presented with a recommended partition map that can be used to partition the platform. As the user moves through the partition management processes, APW explains the choices and their impact, leading the user through multiple windows. Corrections and changes can be made before final commitment of the data.
AMU requires a more thorough understanding of AlphaServer ES47/ES80/GS1280 firmware partitioning concepts than APW. AMU uses a logical representation of CPUs in system drawers to assist the user with creation of partitions and assignment of CPUs through context menus that include commands analogous to SMLAN CLI commands.
Use AMU if you are comfortable with the CLI partitioning commands and all aspects of AlphaServer partitions management. Note that AMU is available only for ES47, ES80, and GS1280 platforms.
