Security

Only accounts in the amsuser group on the AMS computer can be used to access SPM. By default the root account is granted SPM administrator privileges. All other amsuser accounts are given guest access privileges. The root account must be used initially to grant operator or administrator privileges to other accounts, using the Assign User Access Dialog Box.

Authentication

When SPM is launched, the default user, guest, is the current user. To perform privileged tasks, you must log in to the SPM system using your amsuser account. Account logins are authenticated by the SysMan Authentication daemon running on the AMS.

Clicking on the Login option from the File menu displays the SPM Login Dialog Box for the user to supply appropriate login credentials.

SPM will change the current user from either an operator or administrator to the default user, guest, when you log out.

Authorization

There are three levels of security privileges in SPM: administrator, operator, and guest.  See Security Privilege Levels for a list of tasks authorized for each level.  Once a user is logged in, the authorization access determines which operations will be enabled or disabled.  Grayed out operations are not available at your current level of authorization.
