Conventions



=In this document, ``/'' is used to separate filename;components; for example, texmf/fonts. This is the:Unix convention but the ideas are in no way Unix-specific.

EIn this document, ``TeX'' generally means ``the TeX system, includingCMETAFONT, DVI drivers, utilities, etc.,'' not just the TeXprogram itself.

,Packages, as described in this document, areDnot LaTeX2e packages, even though there sometimes exist LaTeX<packages with the same names. LaTeX packages are style files>that add more macro code to document classes. TDS packages are7sets of files distributed, installed, and maintained asunits.

/The following typographic conventions are used:


filename


:Filenames are typeset in typewriter (constant width) type.



command


Commands are typeset in italics.



literal


Literal text# is typeset in typewriter type.



replaceable


- Replaceable text is typeset in typewriter oblique.- Replaceable text, such as package,& identifies a class of things.
