

                                DARK HALF
                     Based on a novel by Stephen King


             	        For the faint of hearts:
              Don't play this game at night or by yourself


      This game based on a horror fiction novel by Stephen
   King.  It has great graphics and terrific music scores along
   with the sound effects.  There are some scenes that might be
   deemed unsuitable for younger players (or viewers).  I would
   recommend that you play the game yourself.  If you're just
   by following the solve, you loose some of the flavor and
   suspense that come with the game.  If you're really stuck
   then feel free to check for the hints from this solve.

** DAY #1 *******************************************************************

Cemetary:
   
      This is where you start.  Walk to the right.  You'll see
   Digger here working on the lawn.  Ask him to unlock the tool
   shed.  Once you're in the shed, pick up the rope and the
   flashlight.  This is all you need to do here.  Leave the
   tool shed.  Walk to the left and to the road outside the
   cemetery (bottom left of screen where the tombstones are).

Road (outside of cemetery):

      Homer Gamache's dead body is lying here.  He was murdered
   by your other half.  Search his body and take the camera. 
   Go into town.

Town:

      Open the tavern door and walk in (the tavern is behind
   the restaurant).  Talk to bartender.  Take the stein on the
   counter and leave.  Head to the east side of town.  Homer's
   truck is abandoned outside the auto dealership.  Open the
   truck cab.  Take the cigarette butts, pencil, and the
   whiskey bottle.  Go home (click on the TRAVEL TO button and
   select the destination).

Outside of House:

      Look at the tree and the branches.  Pull a dead tree
   branch from the tree.  There is a mail box in front of the
   house.  You can hide your gun there (that will come later in
   the game).  Go into the house.  Pick up the book on the
   table.  Look at the bookcase.  The study room where you do
   most of your works is hidden behind it.  You can push and
   pull the book case to open and close it (depend on what side
   of the bookcase you're on).  Push it open and walk in.  Once
   you're inside the study, push the bookcase again to close
   it.  You will see a blank piece of paper inside the trash
   can.  Take it.  Go to the bed room.  Open the closet and
   hide the bottle in it.  Close the closet.  Open the dresser
   drawer.  Pick up a clean shirt and wear it.  Now turn off
   the lamp and go to sleep.


*** DAY #2 ******************************************************************

      Walk out to the living room.  The sheriffs will come to
   interrogate you.  The following are the correct responses to
   their questions:

      -  "So why are you at MY house?"
      -  "Digger is an old man who spends way too much time
           with dead bodies...  I was home all night."
      -  "I've been framed!"
      -  "Fred Clawson"

      The sheriffs will leave after the interview.  Pick up the
   plants next to the phone.  Take the key, use it to unlock
   the cabinet.  Get the gun then travel to town.

Town:

      Go to the restaurant.  Pull the seat cushion.  You'll see
   some chains and a cigarette lighter here.  Take chains and
   lighter.  Sit down.  Light a cigarette with the lighter. 
   Use the pencil on the blank piece of paper.  You'll fall
   into a trance.  Once you're out of the trance, go to the
   barber shop and ask the barber for direction to Fred
   Clawson's place.  Head for Fred's apartment (north end of
   town).  Pick up the paper on the street in front of Fred's
   apartment.  Open the door and walk in.  Look at the floor. 
   There is a canister to the left.  Pick up canister (tear
   gas).  Open the door and walk in.  Fred is lying on the bed. 
   He was shot to dead by you know who.  Pick up the pillow. 
   Open the closet.  You'll be confronted by a vicious dog. 
   Use the tear gas to quiet the dog.  Use the flashlight on
   the dark closet.  There is a strong box inside the closet. 
   It is locked.  Use the pillow with the gun on the strong
   box.  Get the money and leave.  Go back into town.  Head for
   the photo shop.  Open the camera.  Give film to the
   salesman.  Buy some films with the money you got from the
   strong box.  Put the films in the camera.  Open the door and
   leave.  When you leave the shop, you will be paged by Liz. 
   Go to the phone booth.  Open it and walk in.  Use the
   quarter on the phone to call Liz.  Head for home.
 
Beaumont's House (yours):

      Before you come in, hide the gun inside the mail box. 
   The sheriffs are here again to question you.  Again, here
   are the right responses:
      -  "So why are you here AGAIN?"
      -  "Well if all the evidence points to me, then why don't
           you just arrest me?"
      -  "With my fingerprints, what other information do you
           need?"
      -  "Well I just happen to have that phrase written on
   this piece of paper.  Here, take it."
      Again, the sheriffs will leave you alone for the time
   being.  Go to the study and do some writings (remember to
   smoke first).  You will fall into a trance again.  When you
   are out of the trance, go to sleep.
  

*** DAY #3 ******************************************************************

      Wake up.  Go to the living room and pick up the phone. 
   Miriam is calling you for help.  She being threatened by
   Stark.  When the line went dead, use the phone to call her
   back.  Go to Miriam's place.

Miriam's Apartment:

      Open the door and walk in.  Pick up the blank piece of
   paper on the hall way in front of Miriam's apartment.  Open
   the door and walk in.  Look around.  Miriam is lying dead on
   the floor.  Pick up the tissue paper.  Open it.  There is an
   eye-ball in it.  Pick up the fireplace poker.  Search the
   vase.  There is a whistle on the bottom of the vase.  Use
   the stein that you got from the bar to get water from the
   fish tank.  Pour the water into the vase until it is filled
   (you can also use the glass in the restaurant to get the
   water).  Take the bird whistle.  Look at the picture on the
   stand.  It's a picture of Miriam and her ex, Rick Cowley. 
   Rick is also in danger.  Open the door.  You'll be
   confronted by George Stark.  Talk to him.  Take his picture
   with the camera.  Use the fireplace poker on him.  He will
   leave you alone, for now.  Go home.


Beaumont's House:

      Go to the bed room.  Look at the mirror.  Liz left a note
   there.  Pick up the note and read it.  Open the closet. 
   Search Liz's jacket and get the money.  Go to town.
 
Town:
 
      Walk to the university.  Use the rope on the tree to
   climb up to Reggie's office.  Talk to her.  Go back to town. 
   Go to the barber shop.  Talk to the barber.  Threaten him. 
   He will run away to the back of the shop.  Take the razor
   and leave.  Go the Hardware store.  Talk to the man.  He
   will give you a note from George.  Pick up the note.  Buy
   the crow bar.  You can use the crow bar to enter Fred and
   Miriam's apartments again (the police have those places
   locked up after the murders).  Leave the store and head for
   the photo shop.  The films that you left to be developed
   should be ready by now.  Talk to the salesman several times. 
   He will recognize you as George Stark, the famous author. 
   Did you remember to pick up the book by the phone in your
   house?  Look at the book.  Give it to the salesman and he
   will give the developed pictures to you for free.  Pick up
   the pictures.  Look at it.  Go home.
 
Beaumont's House:
 
      The policemen are here again to interrogate you for the
   last time.  Here are the responses that should get you off
   the hook:
      -  "If it's my blood, where's my wound?"
      -  "Hold on! I've got a photograph of George with Homer's
           wooden leg ...  See look, He's the killer, not me!"
      -  "I can prove I'm not the killer.  I have a picture of
           George on film.  It was taken at Miriam's... here,
           take it!"
      -  "You don't understand!  The killer is still out there. 
           He WANTS you to think he's me.  I'm afraid for my
           family!"
      -  "What about this?  I have a note from George.  He
           delivered it in person to the man at the hardware
           store.  Ask him!"
      -  "Wait!  This eyeball belongs to George ... None of the
           bodies are missing an eye, right?"
      After the sheriffs have left, go to the study and write. 
   Go to sleep.


*** DAY #4 ******************************************************************

      You wake up at 4 a.m. in the morning.  The phone is
   ringing off the hook in the living room.  Pick up the phone. 
   It was call from George.  He had just exterminated Rick
   Cowley along with his body guards.  You have to go to Rick's
   place but you can't elude the cops.  Remember the dead tree
   branch that you pulled off from the tree?  Put it on the
   bowl under the smoke detector.  Use the lighter on it to set
   off the smoke detector.  Hide behind the cabinet.  The cops
   will come running into the bed room.  Now is your chance to
   leave.  Head for Rick Cowley's Office.

Rick's Office:

      When you're in Rick's office, you should get another call
   from Stark.  Look around.  Look at the open book.  Pick up
   the yellow notes by the feet of one of the slain cops.  Read
   the notes.  Leave office and go to the hospital.
   
Hospital:

      Walk in.  Talk to Dr. Pritchard.  When he walked away to
   get your file, look at the cart.  Open the drawer.  Search
   it.  Take the first aid kit and the scalpel.  Close the
   drawer.  Use the phone to call Liz.  Leave the hospital and
   head for the town.

Town:

      Go to the university and talk to Reggie.  She will give
   you the disguises.  Use it.  Leave the university and head
   for home.

Beaumont's House:

      Use the scalpel to untie Liz.  You can't push the book
   case open because it's blocked from the inside.  Go to the
   bed room and get the whiskey bottle from the closet.  Open
   the first aid kit.  Use the gauze in the bottle.  Light the
   fuse and use the bottle on the book case.  Go into study.
 
      Ok, this is it.  George will make you help him write the
   a story.  If you don't cooperate, he will slit your throat
   (sounds gruesome heh?).  What you need to do is outwit him. 
   When he asks for a tittle, say STEEL MACHINE.  This is very
   important.  Before you start, ask him to get a new pencil. 
   When he gets up, SWITCH the worn out razor that you got from
   the barber shop with the one on the table.  Now you're ready
   to start the story.  You're on your own from here.  It's
   pretty simple, really.  Try NOT to tell Stark what he wants
   to hear.  If you can stall long enough, the sparrows will
   come to take him away and the game will end.
 
      BTW, feel free cooperate with Stark on the story.  You'll
   see what you look like if you really help him write a best
   seller.
