     TO PLAY SUPER SPELLICOPTER, YOU NEED AN IBM PC XT OR COMPATI-
BLE COMPUTER. YOU CAN ALSO USE THE PROGRAM WITH A MORE POWERFUL 
MACHINE SUCH AS AN IBM AT. 
 
     WE RECOMMEND INSTALLING THE PROGRAM ON YOUR HARD DISK, IF YOU 
HAVE ONE. YOU NEED A EGA OR VGA COLOR MONITOR TO USE THE PROGRAM. 
YOU CANNOT RUN SUPER SPELLICOPTER USING A MONOCHROME MONITOR. 
 
     INSTALLING SUPER SPELLICOPTER 
 
     TO PLACE SUPER SPELLICOPTER ON YOUR HARD DISK, JUST FOLLOW 
THESE STEPS: 
 
     1. TURN ON YOUR COMPUTER AND MONITOR. 
 
     2.   PLACE DISK 1 IN DRIVE A. 
 
     3.   TYPE A: AND PRESS ENTER. TYPE INSTALL, AND THE COMPUTER 
WILL CREATE A DIRECTORY CALLED "SPELL" ON YOUR HARD DISK. 
 
     4.   FOLLOW THE ON-SCREEN MESSAGES. REMOVE BOTH DISKS, AND 
CREATE BACK UPS TO PROTECT YOUR COPY OF THE PROGRAM. 
 
     BACKING UP SUPER SPELLICOPTER 
 
     WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU BACK UP YOUR SUPER SPELLICOPTER DISKS. 
TO BACK UP THE PROGRAM, YOU'LL NEED TWO BLANK, FORMATTED FLOPPY 
DISKS. USE THE DISKCOPY COMMAND FOUND IN YOUR DOS MANUAL TO COPY 
SUPER SPELLICOPTER ONTO BACKUP DISKS. WHEN YOU'RE DONE, PLACE THE 
ORIGINAL DISKS IN A SAFE PLACE (WHERE WATER, HEAT OR LITTLE BROTH-
ER WON'T DAMAGE THEM). 
 
     STARTING SUPER SPELLICOPTER 
 
     TO START USING THE PROGRAM, FOLLOW THESE STEPS: 
 
     FROM YOUR HARD DISK 
     1. TURN ON YOUR COMPUTER AND MONITOR. 
 
     2.   AT THE C> PROMPT, TYPE CD SPELL TO GO TO THE DIRECTORY 
CALLED "SPELL."

ENTER A CODE WORD. IT IS EASY TO DO. TWO CODE WORDS WILL APPEAR ON 
THE SCREEN. 
 
     1.   FIND THE FIRST WORD ON THE OUTERMOST RING OF THE SUPER 
SPELLICOPTER CODE WHEEL. 
 
     2.   ROTATE THE INNER WHEEL UNTIL THE SECOND CODE WORD IS 
DIRECTLY UNDER THE FIRST WORD. 
 
     3. THE COUNTER-CODE APPEARS IN THE CUT-OUT WINDOW. 
 
     4. TYPE THE COUNTER-CODE AND PRESS ENTER. 
 
MAKE YOUR SELECTIONS 
 
     YOU CAN PLAY SUPER SPELLICOPTER USING A JOYSTICK OR THE 
KEYBOARD. IF YOU'RE A JOYSTICK USER, YOU WILL NEED TO USE THE 
KEYBOARD OCCASIONALLY. STUDY THE SECTION WHICH APPLIES TO YOUR 
CONTROL METHOD. 
 
     KEYBOARD USERS 
 
     YOU CAN USE JUST THE KEYBOARD TO CHOOSE ITEMS AND CONTROL 
YOUR HELICOPTER IN SUPER SPELLICOPTER. PRESS THE ARROW KEYS TO 
MOVE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS IN THE COMMAND CENTER. PRESS 
THE UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS TO MOVE THE HIGHLIGHT BAR IN A LIST OF 
ITEMS. WHEN YOU WANT TO SELECT A MENU OPTION, PRESS ENTER. 
 
     JOYSTICK USERS 
 
     USE YOUR JOYSTICK TO HIGHLIGHT WORDS OR NAMES IN A LIST. PUSH 
THE JOYSTICK FORWARD TO MOVE THE HIGHLIGHT BAR UP A LIST, AND PULL 
IT BACK TO MOVE THE HIGHLIGHT BAR DOWN. MOVE THE JOYSTICK RIGHT OR 
LEFT TO MOVE THE HIGHLIGHT HORIZONTALLY. 
 
     TO SELECT A HIGHLIGHTED ITEM IN A LIST (I.E., A NAME IN THE 
LOG BOOK), MOVE THE HIGHLIGHT BAR OVER THE NAME OF THE PILOT YOU

SKY. IT'S UP TO YOU TO CAPTURE THE SCATTERED LETTERS AND CONSTRUCT 
WORDS. BEFORE YOU CAN TAKE OFF, HOWEVER, YOU NEED TO SIGN IN AT 
THE COMMAND CENTER, CHOOSE YOUR SKILL LEVEL, YOUR COPTER, TERRAIN 
AND A WORD LIST. 
 
     REMEMBER-THE AIR IS FULL OF OBJECTS. YOU WILL MEET LETTERS, 
UFOS, FLYING ROBOTS, THE FRIENDLY PARACHUTIST AND THE OLD GRAY 
GOOSE; YOU'LL SKIM THE DESERT FLOOR, AND BRUSH MOUNTAIN PEAKS WITH 
YOUR CHOPPER'S BELLY... 
 
THE COMMAND CENTER 
 
     THE COMMAND CENTER IS THE HEADQUARTERS OF PILOT OPERATIONS. 
AT THE CENTER, PILOTS LOG IN, VIEW WORD LISTS, PRINT PILOT INFOR-
MATION, AND CHANGE PROGRAM AND SYSTEM CONFIGURATIONS. THE COMMAND 
CENTER HAS A DOOR LEADING TO THE AIRSTRIP, AND AN EXIT DOOR THAT 
LETS YOU LEAVE THE GAME. 
 
     A HELP BAR AT THE UPPER RIGHT DESCRIBES THE POINTER'S PRESENT 
LOCATION. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN THE POINTER IS OVER THE AIRSTRIP 
DOOR, THE BAR READS: "TO HELI-PAD." READ THE HELP BAR IF YOU'RE 
UNSURE OF THE POINTER'S PRESENT LOCATION.

THE CONFIGURATION BOARD 
 
     SUPER SPELLICOPTER HELPS YOUR COMPUTER TAKE ADVANTAGE OF 
     ITS BUILT-IN OPTIONS-THINGS LIKE SOUND, VIDEO, AND PRINTING 
CAPABILITIES. HERE ARE THE OPTIONS AND WHAT THEY DO:

     TO CHANGE ANY OF THESE OPTIONS, JUST FOLLOW THESE STEPS: 
 
     1. MOVE THE POINTER TO THE CONFIGURATIONS BOARD AND 
          PRESS ENTER. 
 
     2.   THE CONFIGURATION SCREEN APPEARS. THERE ARE SEVEN OP-
TIONS LISTED; EACH HAS TWO SETTINGS. THE CURRENT SETTING FOR EACH 
OPTION IS HIGHLIGHTED.

     ONCE YOU CHECK THAT YOUR COMPUTER SETUP IS OKAY, YOU CAN LOG 
IN AT THE FLIGHT BOOK. TO LOG IN: 
 
     1. MOVE THE POINTER TO THE FLIGHT BOOK AND PRESS ENTER. 
 
     2.   THE FLIGHT BOOK OPENS. TO ENTER A NEW PILOT, PRESS F1. 
TYPE THE NAME AND PRESS ENTER. TO SELECT AN EXISTING PILOT, JUST 
HIGHLIGHT THE DESIRED NAME, AND PRESS ENTER. 
 
     3.   CHOOSE A SKILL LEVEL. YOU MAY FLY AS A NOVICE, PILOT OR 
ACE. JUST MOVE THE HIGHLIGHT TO YOUR CHOICE, AND PRESS ENTER TO 
RETURN TO THE COMMAND CENTER.
