Bridge is the most popular of all card games. It is a game of skill
that has much more of a social flavor than, for instance, chess. You have a
partner at the bridge table with whom you must interact effectively to achieve
 good results.

Computer bridge software now offers a wonderful new way of learning the
game of bridge and constantly improving your bidding and play. For the best
progress one or two fundamental bridge books are recommended along with some
at-the-table play with players better than you.

Two books we would recommend are 5 WEEKS TO WINNING BRIDGE by Alfred
Sheinwold ($5.95) for learning the basic elements bidding and play and THE
PLAY OF THE HAND by Easley Blackwood ($11.95) for learning the the techniques
of good declarer play. Both books may be obtained from Great Game Products,
 Inc.

As compared with a "live" bridge game involving four human players,
 computer bridge has these advantages:

 ^11. NEUTRAL ATMOSPHERE

Computer bridge gives you an opportunity to improve your play in a neutral
atmosphere in which the computer will not become upset with you over a bad bid
or play. You escape the criticism which you encounter when playing with more
 experienced players.

Quite to the contrary, the computer, when asked, will provide advice to you
and in some cases the reasoning behind this advice.

 ^12. PRACTICE MODES

You can play any given hand in one or both of two modes. In the first you
see only the cards you would at the bridge table. In the second you can see
and study all of the cards, just as you would when reading a book or newspaper
column. The ability to replay deals and discuss them with another person
provides an extremely effective way to learn.

 ^13. MEASURING YOUR SKILL

The computer software allows you keep score in any of several ways. Over
time you can measure the improvement in your bidding and play by, for example,
comparing your scores with the scores achieved by the computer on identical
 hands.
