Installing Talking ABC's from BBS files:
       ----------------------------------------
         1. Be sure you have both TALKABC1.ZIP and
TALKABC2.ZIP or that you have TALKABC.ZIP
            which contains all the files.

         2. Make an ABC directory:
               MD ABC <enter>

         3. Change to the ABC directory:
               CD ABC <enter>

         4. You need the program PKUNZIP to unzip the
            files. Type:
               PKUNZIP A:TALKABC1 <enter>
               PKUNZIP A:TALKABC2 <enter>
                    or
               PKUNZIP A:TALKABC <enter>

         5. You should have about 60 *.tsx files,
            ABC.EXE, BEACH, BEACH.ABC, RMN40.CGA and
            RMN40.GFT in your directory now.

Installing Talking ABC's from a distribution disk:
       -------------------------------------------------
          1. Put disk #1 in drive A (or B).
(3 disks only have 1 disk)

          2. Type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL)

          5. Answer the questions. The program
             will create a directory called
ABC and will copy all the files
to it. When it is finished you
will be able to run the program
             from your hard disk.

         6. Put away your disks in a safe
            place.

       Stopping Talking ABC's:
       -----------------------
         1. Press the <Esc> key to get the
            menu.

         2. Press the <Esc> key again to
            Stop the program.

     TROUBLE SHOOTING
     ----------------

        1. Garbled sound: Remove programs like
Windows enhanced mode, Deskview and others
that multitask. Note: You can run Windows
in standard mode and Talking ABC's will work
fine. To start Windows in standard mode type:
               Win /s

        2. Insufficient memory message: Remove
           TSR's. Reboot.

        3. No sound at all. You may have forgotten the second
distribution file called either TALKABC2.ZIP or
ABCZIP2.EXE. You need one of these files and you need to
unzip it to your hard disk. Follow the installation
instructions. If you have files called A.tsx, airplane.tsx
etc then you have already done this. Also, sound does not
work if you start the program while running WINDOWS on a
           386 (enhanced mode).

        4. You have an EGA but the program will only run in CGA:
           Try starting ABC's like this:
                  ABC E <enter>
This will force it into EGA mode.

      ABOUT TALKING ABC's
      ___________________

I (Karen Crowther) support my kids by writing programs.
After I wrote Talking ABC's I learned that retail stores do
not want anything on their shelves with a list-price under
$50. (Those "under $15" programs are usually give-aways that
the publisher is dumping.) It seemed to me, that parents of
young children are the ones least able to afford these high
prices. Then I looked into the costs of publishing and found
that in many cases the BOXES cost more than the publisher
paid for the program! I have purchased several children's
games. One was great but the rest were disappointing. My
kids played them for an hour and never looked at them again.
What a waste of $50! (But what a great looking box!)

That's when I decided to distribute Talking ABC's via
shareware. It seemed the fairest way for both my customers
and for me. My customers get to try the program first so
they don't get stuck paying for something their children
don't like, and they get a commercial quality program at a
low price. I don't have to pay the artist yet more money to
design a box, and I get my program out on the market in the
         shortest possible time.

At the time of writing, I am just finishing a new program,
WORD RESCUE, which will also be available as shareware. Your
registration fee is absolutely crucial to allow me to
continue writing these games for your children. I rely on
         your support.
