                               Dune II v1.07 Fix

                                  Disclaimer
 ͼ

This is an unofficial patch, and neither Westwood Studios nor its
successor, Electronic Arts, are related in any way to it, and thus they
will not provide any kind of support for it.

This patch is freeware, meaning that you may use and redistribute it
free of charge. However, you are using this patch at your own risk, and
I will not take any responsibility for whatever damage you can possibly
inflict to yourself or your PC by using (or misusing) it.

 ͻ
                              1. Installation
 ͼ

In order to maintain compatibility with different known releases of
DUNE II, and to allow the installation of the patch on any OS, the
package contains the modified files to replace the original one from the
   DUNE II installation.

The files for each known release are contained in a separate folder
   within the archive:

DYNASTY - patched US release ("The Building of a Dynasty").
ARRAKIS - European three-language release ("The Battle for Arrakis").
HITSQUAD - HitSquad three-language release ("The Battle for Arrakis").

To ensure that you use the correct EXE version, check that the new
file's size (in bytes) matches the size of the original file. If none of
the executable files supplied in this package match your original
DUNE2.EXE in size, try using the HitSquad version of the fix.

NOTE: The patch is NOT compatible with DUNE II v1.0. Installing the
patch over v1.0 will result in game crashes. You must first update your
DUNE II to v1.07 using the official patch, and then install the fix's
   files over it.

 ͼ

Below is a complete list of issues the patch fixes in DUNE II v1.07.

   Gameplay fixes:

Fixed the internal syntax error which prevented the AI from
assembling attack teams of light and heavy vehicles ("team bug").
Looped reinforcements for Sardaukar are now enabled.

   Mission-specific fixes:

Removed the unused CHOAM (Starport related) section from SCENA001.
Removed obsolete reinforcement sections from SCENA002, SCENA003,
        SCENA004 and SCENH004.
Fixed invalid spice bloom placement in SCENA005.
Removed junk lines (probably obsolete map data) from SCENH002 and
        SCENH007.
Fixed incorrect hit point values for pre-placed buildings in
        SCENH006.
Reinstated the sandworms that were commented out in SCENH008.
Fixed the error that disabled Devastator reinforcements in
        SCENH017, SCENH018 and SCENH019.
Removed duplicate Spice Silo and Light Factory structures in
SCENO005 (two identical structures were positioned at the same
        coordinates).
Increased the unit limit for the AI players to 25 in SCENO021.
Changed the player's starting credits from 1500 to 1000 in SCENO022
(the extra 500 credits were a result of an error).
Changed the Atreides WOR to Atreides Barracks in SCENH022,
SCENO014, SCENO015, SCENO016 and SCENO022, so that the Atreides can
        produce infantry.
Fixed all missions where the MaxUnit value name was misspelled as
        MaxUnits for an AI player (SCENA005, SCEN017, SCENA018, SCENA019,
        SCENH017, SCENH018, SCENH019, SCENO017, SCENO018, SCENO019).
Fixed the error which prevented the player from buying
Ornithopters at the Starport in SCENA020, SCENA021, SCENA022,
        SCENH020, SCENH021, SCEHNH022, SCENO020, SCENO021 and SCENO022.
Set the spice quota value to 0 in SCENA022, SCENH022 and SCENO022
(was 2500, but did not actually affect anything).

   Mentat information fixes:

Fixed incorrect power consumption values for the Barracks and the
Starport (the incorrect values of 20 and 80 were changed to the
        actual 10 and 50).
Light Factory entries in the Atreides and Ordos Mentat databases
are now accessible from mission 2 (since the Atreides and Ordos can
build Light Factories in this mission).
Spice Silos entry is no longer shown on mission 1.

   In-game spelling fixes:

Fixed the spelling of the word "Ornithopter" (was "Ornithipter").
Fixed the spelling of the word "incompatible" (yes, I'm pedantic
        ;)).
Fixed the spelling of the word "Starport" in the building hints
        section.

   Graphics fixes:

Fixed the House of Ix palette glitch for Atreides and Ordos.
Fixed a graphical glitch that would occur instead of the "manual
check" sequence in the HitSquad release.

   Sound fixes:

Removed the clicking noise from some of the game sound effects.
Restored a missing voice clip during missile launch countdown in
French and German (European and HitSquad releases).

   Setup program changes:

The setup program now allows to configure multiple sound devices
for DUNE II (check SETSOUND.TXT for more information).
Several text mistakes in the setup dialogue were fixed, most
notably the music device selection screen, which no longer contains
the misleading line "Play sound from" (changed to "Play music
        from").

Dune II Unofficial Fix was made possible thanks to the efforts of these
   people (in no particular order):

Kevin Cernekee, who created WWPAK, a very handy Westwood PAK
        (un)packer.
Shagrath, author of an old Dune II Scenario Editor who was the
first to discover and describe the "team bug" in the game's AI
        scripts.
Olaf van der Spek, author of the excellent XCC Mixer multi-purpose
        tool.
Siberian_GRemlin, a Westwood Studios games enthusiast, who added
support for Dune II compressed text and Mentat database formats
into his Siberian String Table Editor at my request.
Nyerguds, creator of the C&C v1.06 patch, who started his Dune II
Editor project to help me out with Super Dune II, and put a lot of
effort into figuring out the intricacies of both the game's main
executable file and the setup programme.
TCH, author of a very handy Windows-based Dune II Scenario Editor.
Ultraq, who included Dune II SHP, CPS and WSA conversion tools into
his Red Horizon modding suite (primarily designed for Command &
Conquer: Red Alert) at my request.
ArrakisResearchCo, author of the Dune II Tile Viewer, which he
transformed into the Dune II Tile Editor at my request.
Segra, who did literally A LOT of research of Dune II code, which
he has released in the form of an IDA Pro database. With this
database, Dune II modding and editing has become a breeze :)
Minniatian, an expert in both PC and Amiga versions of Dune II.
Stefan Hendriks, creator of Arrakis and Dune 2 The Maker remakes of
Dune II, and a Dune II enthusiast in general :)
AnyKey Entertainment team, creators of an unofficial Russian
        localization of Dune II.

I would also like to additionally thank Stefan Hendriks, Nema Fakei,
Nyerguds, Minniatian, Siberian_GRemlin, Segra and TrueBrain for lots of
support and valuable advice on numerous occasions. Thanks guys!!!
