USER INFORMATION

PC-KONG is BASED on an original game previously designed several years ago.
This version is an IBM version and now contains up to ten levels, six never
before seen.  This game is SHAREWARE and is allowed to be distributed,
but not modified.  Use of this program by a user makes the programmer completely
immuned from any incidents which may occur during its use.


COMMERCIAL SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTORS

Commercial distribution of this shareware game is completely allowed, there
is no need to contact the programmer on the distribution of the game provided
it is not modified in any way.  All profits are to be retained by the
commercial distributor.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

VGA - Video game requires a VGA color system and operates in the
      320x200x256 color mode (256k on board memory needed for video).
CPU - The video game self calibrates to the computer speed, it has
      been tested in the 8Mhz to 33Mhz range and should work above 33Mhz.
JOY - Joystick can be used and is optional.
KEY - The keyboard is the default input device.
MEM - The video game requires a very small amount of system memory to
      operate.  It uses a swapping technique to use the least amount of
      memory.  The minimum memory usage is about 300k.
HDD - It is recommended to run the program on a Hard Disk Drive System.
      It requires a minimum of 900k disk space

KEYBOARD CONTROLS <MAIN MENU>

<ESC> 1. Allows user to exit demo and enter Main Menu.
      2. Allows user to exit a level and return to Main Menu.
      3. Allows user to exit a CREDIT, HIGH SCORE, or HELP screen.
<F1>  4. Allows user to see the keyboard help screen (only in Main Menu).
<P >  5. Pause key used while in a playing level.
      6. Pressing any other key while in PAUSE mode, releases the pause.
<S >  7. Toggle for SOUND enable and disable while in main menu only.
<1 >  8. While in Main Menu, this key will start you at the beginning of the
         game.
<2 >  9. While in Main Menu, this key will take you to another level provided
         a password was entered (Key 6) correctly.
<3 > 10. While in Main Menu, this key will show you the current high score
         listing.
<4 > 11. While in Main Menu, this key will show information about CDG SOFTWARE.
<5 > 12. While in Main Menu, this key will allow configuration of game,
         (1) Turn on Keyboard Mode (default)
         (2) Turn on Joystick Mode (optional)
         (3) Calibrate the Joystick
         <esc> Exit Configuration Mode
<6 > 13. While in Main Menu, this key will allow the user to enter in a
         password (shown at the end of each game), selecting <2 > after
         entering in the password will take you to that level.
<7 > 14. In Main Menu, this will take you back to the demo mode (one shown
         at the beginning of the game).
<8 > 15. In Main Menu, this will allow you to exit the game.


KEYBOARD CONTROL <IN GAME>

<UP ARROW   > This allows Guido to climb up a ladder.
<RIGHT ARROW> This allows Guido to Walk Right
<LEFT  ARROW> This Allows Guido to Walk Left
<DOWN ARROW > This Allows Guido to climb down a ladder.
<CTRL       > Allows Guido to Jump
<ALT        > Allows Guido to Grab a hammer, shoot a bullet (LEVEL 10).

Keyboard controls can be combined with other direction keys to get up ladders
quicker.  For Example, If you are going toward a ladder that is to the right
and want to climb up, press the RIGHT ARROW along with the UP ARROW, and as
soon as GUIDO gets to the ladder, he will automatically climb up the ladder.

To Grab a hammer, HOLD DOWN the ALT key and move left and right underneath the
hammer, and GUIDO will pick it up.

HAMMER MODE

If guido gets the hammer, this will make him invincible.  He can destroy
barrels and fireballs.  Guido can not climb ladders in HAMMER MODE, this mode
only lasts for about 10 seconds, shown near the score on the right corner.


OBJECTIVE

The Objective is to get GUIDO to the girl without dying.  Some of these
levels are very difficult to pass, but remember there is a way to get
to the girl.


SCORE BOARD

 00000       10         The score board is shown in the game mode, and
 ͻ         it is on the upper right hand corner of game.
  BONUS 1000          The top five digits is your score earned in that
 ͼ         level.  The score next to the BONUS is decremented
                        once every second.  This is score is added when you
  complete the level.

The number 10 represents the amount of time that GUIDO can remain in
hammer mode.
Your overall score is shown and updated at the end of each level, every 5000
points, you will recieve a free life.


ABOUT THE PROGRAMMING

The program was written in Turbo Assembly for an 80286 computer system.
The program is about 40,000 lines of assembly language and is over
1000 pages of code after assembly.  This game was written as a computer
engineering senior project under the direction of the University of Texas
at El Paso Electrical Engineering Department.
