 AREAS OF OPERATION

1982 - Falklands War
The war in the Falkland Islands in 1982 was the first major campaign where
modern-day weaponry was used by both sides. The war saw the validation of
the French-build Exocet (AM 39) anti-ship missile, and exposed the need
for a point-defense system for each ship in the British Fleet, as well as
the need for an extended anti-air capability for both detection and
attack. The war was largely an air campaign waged against ships.
NOTE: The Ticonderoga-class cruiser was performing sea trials during the
Falkland Islands War. Her participation in this battle is fictional.
