1990 - Desert Shield

Desert Shield was an enforcement exercise in response to Iraq's incursion
into Kuwait. U.S. forces in Desert Shield inspected ships for improperly
manifested materials for Hussein's army and waited to see if full-blown
conflict would ensue.

1991 - Desert Storm
Operation Desert Storm involved conflicts between ships, submarines,
aircraft and land forces. The AEGIS cruiser's role was two-fold. The ship
launched the aircraft that inflicted the damage on land targets and
prevented enemy aircraft from bombing other allied ships in the Gulf and
surrounding waters.

1992 - Black Sea
Under a flag of peace, an AEGIS cruiser and a small complement of U.S.
Navy ships were conducting navigation operations in the international
waters of the Black Sea. The Task Force was located southwest of the
Crimea Peninsula. The huge naval base of Sevastapol was located on the
Crimea Peninsula. The division of the Black Sea Fleet Eskadra caused
altercations between Russia and several Black Sea countries. The Ukraine
in particular had a large stake in the division of the Black Sea Fleet.
