Mission #17:
May 29. Because of the Argentines' successful attack against the main body
of the fleet yesterday, intelligence reports indicate a major air
offensive against the fleet again today.

Background: With their success against the Atlantic Conveyor, the
Argentines pressed their attack against the body of the British forces.
Two Super Etendard fighters and four A-4 Skyhawk bombers attacked a target
80 miles east of the Falklands. The target was hit with two 500-pound
bombs and the last of the Argentines' air-launched Exocets. The Argentines
claimed they had identified and attacked the British aircraft carrier
Invincible. The British claimed that they hit the hulk of the Atlantic
Conveyor, which later sank. In addition, an Argentine Hercules aircraft
attacked the fuel tanker Wye north of South Georgia Island with eight
500-pound bombs. One bomb fell onto the deck of the Wye, but failed to
explode. The Wye was carrying 21,000 tons of desperately-needed fuel.
