Mission #3:
March 24. Target and destroy the radar dishes at Surt. Monitor radar
signals originated by target to make sure radar dishes have been
destroyed. Do not approach the coastline any closer than necessary to take
out the targets.

Background: At 2206 hours on March 24, two U.S. Navy A-7 planes targeted
the radar dishes at the Surt location from a distance of forty miles. The
two A-7s fired HARM missiles at the site. The idea was to "minimize
collateral damage" by avoiding the use of "highly explosive missiles." It
was referred to as "shooting out the tires." Two more A-7s launched
another pair of HARM missiles at the Surt target when the radar was
reactivated at the missile site. Nothing substantial was then detected.

By mid-day on March 25, Libyan aggression toward U.S. vessels ceased. U.S.
forces suffered zero damage to its planes or ships. No American lives were
lost.

The Navy pulled back, north of the "Line of Death," on March 27. The
aircraft carriers Coral Sea and America sailed to the Northern
Mediterranean.
