Multiple Ship Involvement with the Ibn Khaldoon:  26 December 1990
Mission #5:  
December 26. Intercept and alter the course of the Ibn Khaldoon, an 
Iraqi-flagged freighter that has already refused repeated requests to 
stop.

Background:  The USS Fife, USS Oldendorf, USS Trenton, USS Shreveport, USS
Curts, and two multinational craft intercepted the Ibn Khaldoon in the 
Arabian Sea after the Iraqi-flagged freighter refused repeated requests to
stop. Iraqi crew members attempted to restrain the Navy boarding team and 
took their weapons. The result was fired warning shots and grenades being 
shot off. The Ibn Khaldoon was diverted to port when the search revealed 
prohibited cargo.

Anti-ship Mines Destruction Incident:  2 January 1991 
Mission #6:  
January 2. Six anti-ship mines have been discovered in the Gulf. Locate 
and destroy all Iraqi mine-laying ships.

Background:  Six anti-ship mines were discovered floating in the Gulf 
during December, and the U.S. was sent in to destroy them.
