Land Takeover Incident:  24 January 1991
Mission #6:  
January 24. Locate and destroy Iraqi mine layers and patrol boats in the 
area.

Background:  U.S. Navy A-6s attacked and destroyed an Iraqi Spasilac 
mine-layer. An A-6 sank an Iraqi Zhuk-class patrol boat and another Iraqi 
minesweeper hit an Iraqi mine while attempting to evade A-6 fire. The 
survivors of the incident were picked up by a helicopter from the USS 
Curts (FFG 38) and taken to the island of Jazit Qurah which was then 
reclaimed. In the first air-to-air engagement between Saudi Arabian and 
Iraqi aircraft, a Royal Saudi F-15 downed two Iraqi F-1s armed with Exocet
anti-ship missiles and bombs.

Transportation of Iraqi Aircraft to Iran Announced:  26 January 1991
Mission #7:  
January 26. Be on the lookout for Iraqi fighter and transport planes that 
are fleeing to Iran. Shoot down any enemy aircraft within range.
Background:  The Department of Defense announced that at least one dozen 
Iraqi MiG-29s, F-1s and a dozen transport aircraft landed in an 
undisclosed location in Iran. U.S. forces tried to search and destroy the 
aircraft before moving into the neutral country.
