Reports of Further Transportation of Iraqi Aircraft: 28 January 1991
Mission #8:
January 28. Iraqi aircraft continue to escape to Iran. Shoot down any
enemy aircraft within range.

Background: The Department of Defense announced that more Iraqi aircraft
have been relocated. Once again, the U.S. forces attempted to prevent the
occurrence.

Mission #9:
February 25. Along with the U.S. frigate Jarret and the British ship HMS
Gloucester, protect the USS Missouri from possible Iraqi missile attacks.
Be mindful of Silkworm missile batteries operating nearby.

Background: On February 25, 1991 the Iraqis launched two Silkworm
missiles toward the battleship Missouri. The Royal Navy ship HMS
Gloucester reported two high speed radar contacts approaching the
Missouri. One of the approaching Silkworms fell into the sea, but the
other continued on a course toward the Missouri. The Missouri deployed
chaff, which the Sea Whiz system locked onto and began to engage. The
Gloucester made the decision to fire its Sea Dart missiles, resulting in
the downing of the inbound Silkworm.
