U.S. Submarine Incident: 22 February 1992
Mission #2:
February 22. Protect a Los Angeles-class submarine that has taken damage
from a Soviet 533 mm torpedo. Enemy submarines are reported in the area.

Background: A Los Angeles-class submarine took damage from a Soviet 533mm
torpedo. There were reports of Soviet-made Foxtrot submarines in the area
where the explosion occurred. All sides were tittering around the U.S.
battle group and the damaged submarine with their own country's
submarines. Soviet and Ukrainian Foxtrots, Petyas and a Moma were circling
like sharks around the damaged submarine. Some ships from the countries'
battle groups were moving in on the Ticonderoga cruiser. Heavy aircraft
activity was also reported to the northeast and northwest of the Exclusion
Zone.

Extension of Exclusion Zone: 23 February 1992
Mission #3:
February 23. Take up picket duty today as you protect your battle group
from possible attack.

Background: Hostile activity increased, and naval craft from both sides
left the area to converge from the north of the Ticonderoga-class ship.
