USS Moosbrugger Incident: 9 August 1993
Mission #2:
August 9. Investigate an explosion at the rear of a relief convoy in the
Adriatic Sea.

Background: Only hours after U.S. ships in the Mediterranean Sea were put
on alert, the USS Moosbrugger reported an explosion at the rear of the
relief convoy. The explosion supposedly came from an unidentified
submarine. The Moosbrugger was earlier told to stand by for orders in such
a situation. The action started after C.I.S. ships were noted to be
heading toward the hostilities instead of carrying out exercises in the
Ionian Sea. The U.S. ship went to the area where she heard the explosion.
