Aircraft Waves and Patrol Boat firings:  16 August 1993
Mission #11:  
August 16. Protect the task group from relentless enemy attacks from the 
air and sea.

Background:  Waves of aircraft and patrol boat attacks pounded the area 
where the convoy was located. Aircraft involved included MiG-21s, SU-25s, 
and MiG-29s. The OSA I patrol boats attempted to shoot the AEGIS ships 
with SSMs. A Koni class ship also tried her hand on the AEGIS.

Moscow Pulls Out Some Ships:  17 August 1993
Mission #12:  
August 17. Take up picket duty and locate all hostile or potentially 
hostile targets within the Adriatic. Several Russian ships and submarines 
remain in the area, so stay alert.

Background:  Fearing a U.S. reprisal, Moscow attempted to pull the Slava 
and Victor III out of the Adriatic. Remaining in the area are the Udaloy, 
Krivak IIs, the Ugra and Tango class ships. The Ugra reported that she had
been hit by a U.S. asset, but the U.S. denied the hit.
