SQS-53B is an Active Sonar system with limited underwater
communications capability.

Electronic Countermeasu res (ECM)

The SLQ-32 ECM is used to confuse or decoy enemy aircraft and
missiles.

Passive Sensor Suites

The choice of a passive sensor will depend upon your assigned mission and
prior intelligence. Patrolling off the coast of a potentially hostile
country that is equipped with submarines would require maximum use of your
sonar suite in a passive mode. Surveillance with your SLQ-32 allows you to
detect hostile air activity before enemy aircraft could fire upon you.
Input from your Passive Sonar arrays are critical to alert you to
sub-surface activity. Submarines are known for stealth, but they still
make sounds you can detect. These sounds are your only means to find the
subs passively. An enemy sub that can sneak up
to visual range can just as easily fire one or more torpedoes into your
hull. You want to locate unknown subs from as far away as possible.
