1987 - 88 - PERSIAN GULF CONFLICT|
This conflict involves virtually every aspect of modern-day naval warfare.
Ships, submarines, aircraft, mines, anti-ship missiles and naval bombardments
were all utilized in an attempt to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to
international shipping.|
When the Iran/Iraq War spilled over into the Persian
Gulf, and shipping from all over the world was threatened, the Navy stepped
in and, for the most part, helped keep trade flowing through the Strait and
averted an expansion of a war which had raged for nearly 10 years.
