Bible Adventures for PC, (C)Copyright '94-'97 by Wisdom Tree, Inc. Ver. 1.5
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

To make sure Bible Adventures installs and runs correctly, please take a
a few minutes to read through this text. If you've already installed Bible
Adventures, skip to "Running Bible Adventures from Windows" or "Running
Bible Adventures from DOS."

Bible Adventures must be installed from Windows. Here are instructions
for installing. In all cases, the installation program copies the files from
the Bible Adventures CD-ROM to your hard drive into the C:\BIBLEA directory.
Once installed, Bible Adventures can be played from DOS and in most cases,
Windows. If you have troubles installing from Windows, see the section,
"DOS Manual Installation" below.

Windows 3.1 Installation
-------------------------
1) From Program Manager, click File and Run.
2) Type D:\SETUP.EXE and hit ENTER. If your CD-ROM drive is another drive
letter other than D:, type the appropriate letter in its place.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions to install the files to your hard drive.

Windows 95 Installation
-----------------------
1) Click Start and Run.
2) Type D:\SETUP.EXE and hit ENTER. If your CD-ROM drive is another drive
letter other than D:, type the appropriate letter in its place.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions to install the files to your hard drive.

DOS Manual Installation
-----------------------
1) Exit windows into DOS.
2) From the DOS prompt type MD \BIBLEA and hit ENTER.
3) Type CD \BIBLEA and hit ENTER.
4) Type COPY D:*.* (If your CD-ROM is another drive letter, replace D with
   the correct letter).

Running Bible Adventures from Windows
-------------------------------------
If you installed the game from Windows, a Bible Adventures program group and
icon will have been created. Double click on the Bible Adventures icon to
start the game. If the game locks up or the graphics are scrambled, see the
"Windows Troubleshooting" section below.

Running Bible Adventures from DOS
---------------------------------
Make sure you exit windows by clicking File and Exit Windows from the Program
Manager in Windows 3.1. In Windows 95, click Start, Shutdown and "Restart the
Computer in MS-DOS Mode." Once in DOS (noted by the C:\> prompt), type
CD\BIBLEA and hit ENTER. This puts you in the Bible Adventures directory. Now
type BIBLEA and hit ENTER. If the game locks up or doesn't run at all, see the
"DOS Troubleshooting" section below.

Windows Troubleshooting
-----------------------
On most systems, Bible Adventures will run just fine from Windows. However,
there are some systems that Bible Adventures may have trouble running on. If
Bible Adventures locks up or displays incorrect or scrambled graphics from
Windows, you will need to play the game from DOS. To do so, you must exit
Windows. Do not go to DOS from the DOS icon in windows. Make sure you exit
Windows completely by clicking File and Exit Windows (Windows 3.1) or Start,
Shutdown and "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode" (Windows 95).

DOS Troubleshooting
-------------------
Use the following checklist to get Bible Adventures up and running in DOS. Go
one step at a time until Bible Adventures runs properly.

- Make sure you are in the C:\BIBLEA> directory by typing CD\BIBLEA and
hitting ENTER. Make sure the Bible Adventures files are in the directory
by typing DIR and hitting ENTER. A list of files should scroll down. If
several files aren't listed or any of them have a value of zero next to
them, the installation failed. Follow the instructions above for installing
Bible Adventures. If everything checks out OK, read on.

- Make sure you got to the C:\> prompt either by exiting Windows or from
a fresh boot up. Do not enter DOS by clicking on the Windows DOS icon.

- The most common reason games lock up or don't run is lack of main memory.
Main or conventional memory is the first 640K block of memory in your
computer. No matter how many megs of RAM you have, programs must run in
this first small block of memory. Game programs tend to be much larger in
size than most other software and having free conventional memory is
critical. To see how much conventional memory you available, type MEM and
hit ENTER. Look at the line that reads, "Largest executable program size."
The number there should be 560K (573,440 bytes) or higher. If it's not,
see the section, "Freeing up Memory." If the number checks out OK, read
  on.

- Consult your computer's documentation to verify that you have a VGA or
EGA video card. If you have Windows, then you do have an EGA or VGA
video card and this is not the problem. If you have an EGA card and not a
VGA card, delete all of the files in the BIBLEA directory with extension
VGA. This will force the game to use the remaining EGA graphic files. To
delete the VGA files, type CD \BIBLEA and hit ENTER. Next type DEL *.VGA and
  hit ENTER.

Freeing up Memory
-----------------
There are three ways to free up conventional memory in your computer:
Using the keyboard to bypass your startup files, making a bootable floppy
disk to bypass your startup files or running Memmaker once to streamline
your startup files.

1) Using the Keyboard to Bypass Startup Files

The easiest way to free up conventional memory is to trick your system into
bypassing its two startup files, AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. First we need
to find out what version of DOS you have. From the DOS prompt, type VER and
hit ENTER and follow the appropriate instructions below.

DOS 6.0 or higher - When your system is first turned on watch carefully for
the words "Starting MS-DOS" to appear on your screen. The instant you see
this press and hold the SHIFT key until the C\>: prompt appears. Now type
MEM and hit ENTER to see what the largest executable program size is. If
it's 556K or higher, you're set. Type CD\BIBLEA and hit ENTER and then
type BIBLEA and hit ENTER. You must perform these steps each time you
  want to play Bible Adventures.

Windows 95 (Version 4.00.950) or higher - When your system is first turned
on, watch carefully for the words "Starting Windows 95" to appear on your
screen. The instant you see this press and hold the SHIFT key and the F5
key simultaneously until the C\>: prompt appears. If the blue Windows 95
screen appears, you were too late. Wait for Windows 95 to boot, shutdown
and try again. Once in DOS after bypassing the startup files, type MEM
and hit ENTER to see what the largest executable program size is. If it's
556K or higher, you're set. Type CD\BIBLEA and hit ENTER and then type
BIBLEA and hit ENTER. You must perform these steps each time you want to
  play Bible Adventures.

DOS 5.0 or earlier - Unfortunately, there is no shortcut for bypassing the
startup files from older version of DOS. See the section on "Making a
  Bootable Floppy Disk."

2) Making a Bootable Floppy Disk

If you have an older version of DOS or you prefer not to try the SHIFT or
SHIFT+F5 shortcuts to bypass your startup files, you can make a bootable
floppy disk. To do so, you must have a blank floppy disk that fits into
your A: drive. On newer systems, this will be 3 1/2 inch disk (although
it's in a hard plastic case, the disk inside is floppy). On older systems
your A: drive may be a 5 1/4 inch disk. Stick the blank disk into the
A: drive and type SYS A: and hit ENTER. Once finished, leave the disk in
the drive and reboot. Your system should now boot up off the floppy drive.
Once it does, type C: and hit ENTER and run Bible Adventures as instructed
above.

3) Running MEMMAKER

MEMMAKER is a program that comes with DOS. It rearranges your AUTOEXEC.BAT
and CONFIG.SYS startup files so that as much conventional memory is freed
up as possible. In most cases, it will not affect the performance of any
of the startup programs. If it does, the MEMMAKER program explains how to
revert to your original startup files. To run MEMMAKER, type MEMMAKER and
hit ENTER. Follow the on-screen instructions.
