	THE STORY SO FAR...

Sometime in the future, Southeast Asian forces have combined
to form one of the most deadly armies ever seen by man. Their
goal, world purification. From their secret underground
complexes they intend to destroy the world, leaving only
themselves to control the future of earth. You are a futuristic
tunnel rat, a member of one of the bravest and most elite fighting
forces of the Americas. You have been sent to infiltrate the
secret fortress and to recover information. Unfortunately your
contact has betrayed you and you find yourself the captive of
the demented forces of Kim Dung Moon. You wake up in the
underground tunnels of the main complex "The Iron Triangle",
the sharp end of a complex array of nuclear manufacturing and
delivery systems installation. Realizing that the project of
purification has gone farther than the American forces had ever
dreamed, there is no time to waste. Only you can stop the twisted
plot and save the people of earth from a holocaust, the likes of
which the world has never seen. Killing the guard with your bare
hands you take his knife, pistol and all the ammo you can find
and venture forth into the darkness...

Starting the Game
3.5 Floppy Disk and CD-ROM Versions
To start Nerves of Steel once it is installed, select the drive partition
which contains the Nerves of Steel subdirectory (Example C:); then type
the following:

cd\nos [ENTER]
nos [ENTER]

* Nerves of Steel uses virtual memory; this means that if your system does
not have enough physical memory (RAM) it will use hard drive space as
RAM memory. Nerves of Steel actually requires 6 Megabytes of memory to
operate correctly, so if your machine only has 2 megabytes of RAM memory
the program will use 4 megabytes of hard drive space for virtual memory.
If your machine has less than 6 megabytes of RAM

Creating a "Clean" Boot Disk
In some cases, it may be necessary to run Nerves of Steel by using a "clean"
boot disk which will boot up your system but will bypass "CPU-hogging"
TSR's that are part of your hard-drive's auto-execution sequence.

Creating a Boot Disk for Windows 95 Systems
To make a boot disk, use the MAKEWIN.BAT utility which is located in the
MAKEWIN subdirectory on the Nerves of Steel CD. To create a boot disk, follow
these steps:
1. Place an unformatted or blank floppy disk in drive A:
2. Log onto your CD-ROM drive:
	d: [ENTER]
3. Log onto the makewin subdirectory:
	cd\makewin [ENTER]
4. Next, type:
	makewin [ENTER]

The Makewin utility will format a floppy disk in drive A: and will copy
the necessary system information for making the disk self-bootable. When
this step is completed, the message, Format another? Y/N will appear. Be
sure to answer N for No. At this point, Makewin will copy the appropriate
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files to the floppy disk in drive A:.

To use your new boot disk, reboot your computer with the boot disk in
drive A:, and load Nerves of Steel from your hard drive.

Please Note: Makewin and Makeboot assume that your mouse driver is in a
directory called mouse. If your driver is in another directory, you should
edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on your boot disk to include the name of the
directory which contains your mouse driver.

Creating a Boot Disk for MS-DOS-only Systems
To make a boot disk, use the MAKEBOOT.BAT utility which is located in the
MAKEBOOT subdirectory on the Nerves of Steel CD. To create a boot disk,
follow these steps:
1. Place an unformatted or blank floppy disk in drive A:
2. Log onto your CD-ROM drive:
	d: [ENTER]
3. Log onto the makeboot subdirectory:
	cd\makeboot [ENTER]
4. Next, type:
	makeboot [ENTER]

To use your new boot disk, reboot your computer with the boot disk in
drive A:, and load Nerves of Steel from your hard drive.

Please Note: Makewin and Makeboot assume that your mouse driver is in a
directory called mouse. If your driver is in another directory, you should
edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on your boot disk to include the name of the
directory which contains your mouse driver.

The Missions

	Mission One:
	The Cyborg Solution
	Location: UNKNOWN
	Objective: Shutdown and Clean out

Moon has created his army of mutants from real human beings - criminal
political prisoners of war like YOU. These nasty little guys fire laser
cannons at you that are built into their heads. They are fast and
deadly, and come out of nowhere. Proceed with caution. If you don't,
you'll be in the prep room next.

	Mission Two:
	Mutant Hive
	Location: Moon's mutant lab
	Objective:

In order for Moon to purify the planet, all those who will not join and
cannot be converted to cyborgs must be destroyed. To achieve this, Moon
has created a sinister race of mutants which, when released on the world,
will go into a feeding frenzy and clear the earth of all remaining life.
Be careful around them, or you too could end up as the effluence of
their toilet prone posteriors.

	Mission Three:
	Moon Keep
	Location: Moons mutant lab
	Objective: Kill or be Killed

Now you have reached Moon's hideout. KILL everything and destroy. This is
your mission. Be careful when you see Moon, though. Not everything is as
it appears!

current game. The current weapon will always be displayed and the current

are carrying with a keycard icon. All other weapon ammo is also displayed
for quick reference. The health status bar indicates the health left in
the current life. The bar starts as solid red and shrinks from right
to left. When the bar disappears, you will die. Press the Space Bar
to restart the level, or to restart the game if you have run out
of lives.
