1. NEW! MOUSE NUDGING
=====================

The Amtex Pinball Classics have always given you a lot of
power with your mouse. Use it to operate the flippers,
precisely control the plunger, or--in Magnet Ball mode--even
draw the ball around through a fully active playfield.

Now, NUDGING has been added to mouse power, giving you
complete control over the game by mouse alone. How? Move the
mouse and you move the playfield.

Just be careful, or you'll TILT!

2. NEW! COMPUTER OPPONENT
=========================

To battle against a computer opponent, press <Ctrl-S> for
yourself, then <Ctrl-B> for the computer. He even puts his
own coin in!

3. NEW! MULTIPLE HIGH SCORE SCREENS
===================================

Each of the four available setups for your Royal Flush
machine now has its own TOP TEN High Score Chalkboard. There
is also a special TOURNAMENT High Score Screen that displays
only those scores achieved under Tournament Settings.

By clicking on the Chalkboard in the Cafe, you can view the
scores achieved on whatever Machine Setup is currently
active.

Except for the Tournament High Score Screen, all Chalkboards
are volatile. Whenever you adjust the settings for a
particular Machine Setup, you will erase all scores
previously achieved under that setup.

CHOOSING A MACHINE SETUP

To select or edit one of the Machine Setups, go to the
SYSTEMS SETTINGS Screen in the Back Box of the Royal Flush
machine. There, you will find a panel named 'MACHINE SETUP'.
On it are four red windows with a button beside each and a
highlighted window at the top labeled 'Current'. Press the
button beside the setup you wish to play. Its name will
immediately appear in the 'Current' window at the top of the
panel and all game settings will be adjusted to match the
settings stored under that Machine Setup.

DEFAULT MACHINE SETUPS

The first two setups on the panel are unnamed but they
correspond to the original Gottlieb factory settings for 5-
Ball play.

The other two, named LARRYS and BROADWAY, correspond to
setups that you might find out on location. One is a 5-Ball
setup, comfortably worn in; the other is a 3-Ball setup in
mint condition. We recommend you start with these. Get to
know the game. Then strike out on your own, exploring
machine configurations until you find your personal
favorites. Any setup can be instantly converted to
Tournament play by pressing the TOURNAMENT RESET button in
the BACK BOX Settings Screen.

RENAMING A MACHINE SETUP

To rename one of the setups, click in its window, type in a
new name and press <Enter>.

CHANGING A MACHINE SETUP

Any change you make within either the SYSTEM SETTINGS Screen
or the BACK BOX ADJUSTMENTS Screen will automatically apply
to the Current Machine Setup. Unless you press the UNDO
button before exiting the screen, this changes will be
stored.

CLEARING A HIGH SCORE SCREEN

Since each High Score Screen holds only those scores
achieved under exactly the same settings, any change you
make, such as toggling from 3-Ball play to 5-Ball play,
clears the current High Score Screen. Before flicking any
switches, therefore, make sure you have chosen a Machine
Setup whose High Score Screen entries you don't mind losing.

TOURNAMENT HIGH SCORE SCREEN

The Tournament High Score Screen is special in several ways.
Only games played on those machines that have been reset to
Tournament Settings will send scores to this scoreboard, and
only the TOP TEN Scores will be displayed. The Tournament
scoreboard is permanent, and cannot be erased if you change
any settings.

A verification code is available at the bottom of this
screen that will confirm your highest Tournament Score. (See
your manual for details.)

Whenever Tournament Settings are active, this screen is
available for viewing by clicking on the Chalkboard in the
Cafe.

EXITING TOURNAMENT PLAY

Any adjustments made in the Back Box that affect game play
will automatically cause you to exit Tournament Play. You
will, however, still be editing the current Machine Setup.

RESTORING THE DEFAULT SETTINGS

In the event that you've unintentionally modified the
original LARRY'S and BROADWAY settings during your initial
exploration of ROYAL FLUSH, you can recover them by re-
installing Royal Flush. If you install into the same
directory, you will WIPE EVERYTHING CLEAN, INCLUDING YOUR
TOURNAMENT HIGH SCORES.

4. UNIVBE
=========

The Universal VESA VBE

The Universal VESA VBE (or UniVBE for short) is a small
Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program that extends the
Video BIOS of SuperVGA video cards to make them compatible
with the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA)
recommended Video BIOS Extensions (VBE). Many new programs
rely on a fully functioning VBE in order to obtain the
highest performance possible. UniVBE provides the latest
VBE 1.2 standard so you can be sure these programs will not
only work correctly, but will run as fast as possible on
your system.

You may already have a vendor supplied VESA VBE TSR program
for your video card, or you video card may have VESA VBE
compliance built into the BIOS, so why would you want to use
this program?

The simple answer is that most of the vendor supplied TSR's
and even some of the latest and most expensive SuperVGA
cards implement an older or problematic version of the
VESA VBE interface. For this reason, many current games and
graphics related programs that use the advanced features of
the new VBE 1.2 standard may not work with your current TSR
or BIOS.

AUTOMATED INSTALLATION

Installing UniVBE on your system is a snap. Simply follow
these 5 steps:

1. Switch to the directory containing the Royal Flush game.
Switch to the UNIVBE directory by typing CD UNIVBE and
pressing <Enter>.

2. Type INSTALL and press the <Enter> key. The installation
program will start, and you will be presented with a
screen describing the installation configuration.

3. Verify the destination directories for installing UniVBE,
and change them if necessary.

4. Select the options you wish to install. (By default all
options will be turned on.)

5. Click the INSTALL button to begin the installation
program.

That's it! When the installation is complete, you will be
returned to the directory into which you installed UniVBE
(by default C:\UNIVBE.) If you selected the option to update
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you will need to reboot your machine
before UniVBE will be active. For more information about
UniVBE, consult the UNIVBE.TXT text file in the UNIVBE
directory.

5. LIQUID-SMOOTH NUDGING IN SVGA
================================

In order to achieve the best possible screen display during
playfield nudging, you may have to fine-tune Royal Flush to
match your video card or VESA driver. The TUNE VESA button
in your SYSTEM SETTINGS screen is provided for this purpose.
Click on it to begin.

INITIATING VESA TUNING

1. While in the Pinball Cafe, click on the Back Box of the
Royal Flush machine. This will bring you to the BACK BOX
   SETTINGS screen.

2. Click on the blue SYSTEM button. This will bring you to
the SYSTEM SETTINGS screen. Locate the TUNE VESA button
   in the bottom right corner.

3. Click on TUNE VESA to activate a cool calibration screen.
Keep pressing <Ctrl-V> until the scrolling is as smooth
as possible. Make sure that BOTH the white lines--one at
the top and one at the bottom--are in view.

4. Be patient. There are 41 possibilities. Only 1 gives
   optimum results.

EXCEPTIONS
Out of the dozens of cards tested to date, only two video
cards proved unable to display the motion of the playfield
during nudges: the ATI Mach 64 and Western Digital cards.

Even if the playfield doesn't appear to move, however, the
ball's velocity is still affected by nudging--provided that
you nudge while the ball is in contact with a playfield
object.

THE UNVIBE SOLUTION
The VESA drivers provided by many manufacturers for the
video cards often support only VESA 1.0 or 1.1, which do not
support horizontal scrolling. In this case, you may find
that installing UniVBE, which fully supports implementation
1.2, will give you a completely clear display with smooth
nudging. See the UniVBE section, above for installation
instructions.

6. MEDIA VISION -- PRO AUDIO SPECTRUM
=====================================

<CTRL>-<ALT>-U/D Keyboard control of volume is no longer
available. Use your hardware volume control instead.

7. KEYBOARD SWITCH OF SOUND OUTPUT
==================================

In order to prevent unintentional sound switching in
the frenzy of a great game, you now must hold down the
<Ctrl> key down while pressing 'A' in order to toggle through
sound devices, i.e. <Ctrl-A>

8. AUTOMATIC BOOT DISK
======================

ROYAL FLUSH works well under many different startup
configurations. Very little base memory is required as long as
you have at least 3 Megabytes of Total Free Memory (2.5 Mb
without sound card).

If your system appears to meet all requirements, but
ROYAL FLUSH still won't run, the problem may lie in your
computer's start up configuration.

Not everyone knows how to change the settings in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files on their system hard disk.
Even if you are, it can be a bother changing your startup
files every time a different system configuration is needed.

To avoid this, you may choose to create a floppy disk with
startup files that configure your PC specifically for ROYAL
FLUSH. This disk, called a BOOT disk, is placed in
Drive A before starting the computer. When your PC starts
up, it will then find the start up files on the boot disk and use
them to configure the your system for the current session.

AUTOMATICALLY CREATING A BOOT DISK
In the directory containing your Royal Flush game, in a sub-directory
called TOOLS, is the program called BOOTDSK1.EXE. The program will
search your system hard disk and display a list of all installed AMTEX
games. Using your keyboard, you can highlight a game and
have a startup disk created. You will then be prompted to place
a blank floppy disk in Drive A, which will be formatted and
initialized to be used as a startup disk for your game.
On-screen prompts will guide you through the rest of the
process.

To run the BOOTDSK1.EXE program, follow these steps:

1) If you are in either Windows or a DOS menu program, exit
   to DOS.

2) Switch to the directory containing the Royal Flush game.

3) Switch into the TOOLS directory. To do this, type:

	CD TOOLS <Enter>

4) Run the BOOTDSK1.EXE program by typing:

	BOOTDSK1 <Enter>
