The dutch lake "Bergumermeer" is situated in a beautiful landscape
east of Bergum. Apart from a few shallows, the lake is navigable
with +/- 1.20 meter draught. The shallows on the East bank consist
of hard sandy soil, and are beautiful spots for swimming.
Some 1.5 km South of "Bergumermeer" you will find lake "Leyen",
which has an area of 334 hectare. It's a very nice lake with
afforestation on the East side. The fairway is +/- 1.50 meter deep
and has buoys. Outside of the fairway, the lake is often very
shallow. There are many rocks and tree-stumps on the hard sandy
soil.
