16 m^2 : two-men keelboot 6.00 16.0 460 - 5
The 16 m^2 has been designed by the technical committee of the
dutch N.N.W.B.. The 16 m2 is a succesion of the Bergumermeerclass
(or BM), and for this reason the 16 m^2 is also called "extended BM".
In 1930 the 16 m^2 has been recognized as a dutch national class by
the K.N.W.V. Since 1948 the 16 m^2 has been a real one-design class.
Apart from this fact there have been several changes. The lead
keel was replaced by a iron keel of 80 kg. The 16 m^2 also has
self-bailers and a trapeze, which makes it possible for the boat
to plane.
The 16 m^2 is a round-bilged keelboat with a high peaked gaff-rig
and jib, and is to be sailed by two persons during races. The
boat has good sailing qualities in spite of the heavy construction.
The use of wood gives the boat classical looks.
