Lake "Veerse Meer" is situated between the former isles "Zuid-
Beveland", "Walcheren" and "Noord-Beveland". On the Nort-West side
it is bordered by the "Veerse dam" and on the East side by the
"Zandkreekdam". The Veerse Meer is a long and relatively narrow
lake. Total lenght is +/- 22 kilometers, width varies from 250 to
1500 meters.
Because of the many bights, the surge is not so high. On the
longest reaches (+/- 8 km) however, the surge can be heavy.
In the fairway, the depth varies from 3 to 25 meter.
The middle shallows are nature reserve and therefore closed.
Around several islands and alongside part of the shores, gravelled
dams are build that are just under or above the water surface.
The lake can be reached on own's one only with fairly seaworthy
yachts, via the "Oosterschelde" or the canal through Walcheren.
