After Jerilderie the Kelly Gang disappeared into the Australian bush. For the next sixteen months the police chased one false lead after another. Even with the help of Queensland native trackers, the Kellys were never found.

On the night of June 26, 1880 Aaron Sherritt was shot dead at his hut near Woolshed. Dan Kelly and Joe Byrne were identified as the culprits.

Elsewhere, Ned and Steve Hart had started the final chapter of the Kelly Gang - the siege of Glenrowan.

Ned and the gang had turned stolen metal plates into crude armour. They planned to use it in a final battle with the Victorian Police. However, Ned's plans went astray, within 48hrs three of the gang were dead and Ned Kelly was in police hands.

With his last words, "such is life", Ned Kelly was
hanged on November 11, 1880 - despite a petition
asking for clemency signed by 30,000 people.
