       1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
       

       Slicks 'N' Slide is a simple car driving game for up to four
       players. The idea of the game is to drive vehicles around a
       track as fast as possible. The game works in allmost every PC/AT
       compatible computer but the faster it is, the smoother vehicles
       move.

       Slicks 'N' Slide is shareware so you can play it for some weeks
       freely but if it proved a worth of payment you should pay a cheap
       registration fee.

       2. HOW TO PLAY SLICKS 'N' SLIDE
       


       2.1 COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
       

       You can use following parameters in Slicks 'N' Slide:

         SLICKS -?         Available command line arguments
                -p<path>   Sets path for tracks
                -l         Change language
                -a<x>      Change the port of LPT-controllers to
                           LPT<x> (default LPT1)
                -v<vol>    Gravis Ultrasound volume (70-100)



       2.2 MAIN MENU
       
          
       2.2.1 KEYS
       

           F1                 List about the keys
           +,-                Inc/decrease number of laps
           T/MidMouse         Show Top ten and the designer of the track
                                D   Delete the Top Ten
                                DEL Delete the track
           R                  Randomize track order
           SPACE/LeftMouse    (Un)select a track
           ENTER/RightMouse   Begin the race
           ESC                Exit to DOS



       2.2.2 CHOICES
       

           Number of laps
           Select randomly
           Select all
           Unselect all
           Randomize
           Load a saved game
           Tracklist
           START
           Players:
              Click on the name or the number button to change
               the type and the name of the player
              Update button recounts the points
              To add a new player, press a 'NEW' button or
               end of the list.



       2.2.3 SETTINGS MENU
       

         Sounds: None, PC-speaker, Adlib, SoundBlaster, Gravis Ultrasound
                  Soundcard settings will be taken from environment
                   variables (BLASTER for SB and ULTRASND for GUS).

                   For example, if your SoundBlaster compatible card uses
                   port 240, interrupt 5 and DMA 1, type:
                            SET BLASTER=A240 I5 D1.

          Firing: press 'brake' button. Changing the weapon: left + right
          every car has different amount of space available for weapons.

        All key combinations don't work correclty in every keyboard.  
        If you have problems with them, find other keys using SSHELP.

       SSHELP is a small tool program for Slicks 'N' Slide.

        SSHELP <track> <path> [-q]    Joins Top tens (wildcards allowed)
                                        -q doesn't show joined Top tens
        SSHELP <track>                Converts OLD track to the new format
                                      (wildcards allowed)
        SSHELP -p <plr1> <plr2>       Joins player lists to SLICKS.PLR list

        SSHELP -t [path of tracks]    Show the best drivers list
                                      (number of #1 position in top tens).



       4. LANGUAGE FILES
       

       If you want a new language to the game, modify SLICKS.L02 and
       send it to me. If possible, use Internet so I could ask new words
       if necessary.

       6. REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
       

       The game is shareware so if it proved to be a good/interesting/
       etc. you are encouraged to pay a (cheap) registration fee, when
       you will receive:

       7. UPDATES
       

       The newest shareware package is available in ftp.funet.fi at
       the directory /pub/msdos/games/arcade/, file slix*.zip.

       Registered users can update their games by sending a nominal
       payment (prices in SLICKS.FRM file) to me. Updates will
       include same files than the registered version.

       You can also get a uucoded update package via Internet if you
       send a email to me (without any update fee). Please tell you
       name and address when asking the ssedit via email.

       If you want to know when new versions are released, join the
       slicks mailing list. Just write message "subscribe Slicks-talk
       your name" to listserver@oliver.sun.ac.za.
