     The release version of Tank Commander makes use of DOS4GW, a
"DOS extending" application that alleviates many memory
headaches. Just in case, we've put together a few hints for people
who still might encounter memory problems when running Tank
Commander:

        The Quarterdeck QEMM memory manager and Tank Commander might
not get along perfectly. The effects can vary, but have caused no
catastrophic lockups on our machines. We have noted that in some
instances the "Loading" and "Briefing" screens might flicker, though
the game itself plays fine. If you encounter problems running Tank
Commander under QEMM, we suggest you make a boot disk using a
configuration such as:

        (CONFIG.SYS)

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM
BUFFERS=15,0
FILES=40
DOS=UMB
LASTDRIVE=F
STACKS=9,256
DOS=HIGH

     (AUTOEXEC.BAT)

ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH C:\DOS;C:\MOUSE;C:\VM300
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
SET COMSPEC=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM
SET LMOUSE=C:\MOUSE

LH /L:1,40352 C:\VM300\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /L:E /M:12 /V
c:
cd\tankgame

     These configurations are very stable, and should fix nearly any
memory-related problem you might encounter with Tank Commander.
For those who still encounter problems the DOS 6.x utility MEMMAKER
is an easy way to free up the 560k conventional memory required to
run Tank Commander. Simply go to the DOS directory of your hard
drive by typing CD\DOS and then type MEMMAKER. Just follow the
on-screen directions at that point.

     If you're still running out of memory, reduce the number of
TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs in your CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT files. These types of files include screen savers,
automatic backup utilities, online virus checkers, and so forth.
Tank Commander only has to have the mouse and CD drivers to run.
Some sound cards may also require their own software to be installed
to play sounds in Tank Commander. Any other drivers and programs
can be eliminated from your Tank Commander boot disk!
