TetWord 1.00

(C) 1995 By Calvin Ang

Short Description

TetWord is a simple yet challenging tetris-like game that
allows you to form words instead of the same old boring lines
found in vanilla tetris games.

Requirements

TetWord requires an Super VGA video card with at least 512k of
video memory installed, as well as a 101 key enhanced keyboard
(the kind with the inverted T arrow keys). A SoundBlaster-
compatible sound card is also highly recommended.

Loading the Game

Simply type TW at the DOS prompt to begin play. The computer will
then begin a simple sound test procedure, in which you must
follow the simple instructions. If it fails or your computer
crashes, then try typing TWNO instead for a soundless version of
the game. When the game loads, it will first load its dictionary
files and display the title screen. Simply hit any key to bypass
this screen.

Playing the Game

Play of the game is simple. Use the arrow keys on the inverted
`T' keypad in order to move; left and right arrows will move the
letter in the corresponding direction, and the down arrow will
drop the piece further down.

If a word(s) is(are) formed with dropped pieces, horizontally,
vertically, or both, then they are cleared out and the player's
score will increase.

When the bonus timer reaches zero, the player is given an
opportunity for a bonus. Two types of bonuses are chosen
randomly: bombs and wild cards. Bombs will remain stationary
until dropped with the down arrow key. Wild cards are depicted by
a question mark until the user presses a key - when this occurs,
the wild card will become the letter pressed.

Note that the player increases in level every ten words; play
thus becomes gradually faster as more levels are gained. In
addition, bonuses will arrive sooner as more points are gained.
Note that 4-letter words are worth double three letter words.
Scoring depends on how soon the letter is dropped as well as the
frequency of each letter in the words formed (i.e., Z is worth
more than E).

Enter rotates the piece if possible. It is left to the player
to discover what pieces can be rotated.

End of Game

The game is over when the player places a letter on the 2nd row
of the play screen.

Other keys:

Q quits during the game.
F1 displays a help screen/ pauses.
