FOR HIGHEST-QUALITY SOUND...
----------------------------
For best music and sound effect quality from this program, we recommend that
a Sound Blaster or compatible sound card be installed in your computer.
A Sound Blaster adds multi-voice music to the program and provides higher
quality speech and sound effects than the PC Speaker or Sound Source.

If you are using the PC speaker for speech and are using a slower computer,
the speech and sound effects may not be very intelligible. This occurs
because of the amount of processor time it takes to process speech through
the PC speaker while also animating shapes on the screen. If this happens,
the only alternative may be to turn off the PC speech in the Configuration
program. The PC speaker was never designed to do much more than make simple
beeps, but we include support for it for those who do not have a sound card.

SHORT ON MEMORY?
----------------
One of the biggest problems users face today when running DOS programs is
not having enough conventional memory for a program to run in. The drivers
needed to run CD-ROM drives and large hard drives commonly found in today's
systems help to contribute to the situation.

Amy's programs display the amount of memory required before her programs
run. The memory required is taken from conventional memory only. Keep
in mind that conventional memory is only the first 640K of memory in your
machine; memory above this 640K limit is not recognized or used.

(You can type "MEM" at the DOS prompt to see how much memory your system has)

If you have less conventional memory than required by one of Amy's programs,
there are a number of things you can do:

1) Remove any TSR's or any other programs you may have running from memory.

2) Make sure that DOS and all drivers (such as a CD ROM driver) are loaded
   into high memory.

3) If all else fails, you can create a system disk and reboot your computer
with this disk in your floppy drive. A system disk is a floppy disk that
has been formatted with only the system files copied to it. Booting with
a system disk will give you a minimally configured system with a maximum
amount of conventional memory available to programs.

To create a system disk, put a blank floppy disk in drive A: of your
   computer and type the following:

       FORMAT A: /S

After the floppy has formatted, reboot your system by pressing the
CTRL-ALT-DELETE keys or by pressing the RESET button on your computer.
After your computer has rebooted, go to the directory where AMY'S programs
are located and type the name of the program you want to run.

4) Another option is to purchase a memory manager. We personally use a
program called "GameRunner" from Quarterdeck after having problems
running a program which required 604,000 bytes(!) of conventional memory.
The best we could do after loading everything high was to get about
602,000 bytes of free conventional memory. After running GameRunner, we
we now have about 649,000 bytes of free conventional memory.

This is in no way meant to be an advertisement for GameRunner. There
are many other memory managers out there also, but this is just one that
   we have been satisfied with.
