These are the text messages for the Bane level of\
Descent to Undermountain
; 1
The skull intones, "Hail the Black Lord, Lord \
Bane, the Lord of Darkness, the Black Hand, the \
Dark One. May his will preserve these halls."
; 2
The skull intones, "Serve no one but Bane. Fear \
Bane always and make others fear Bane more than \
you do. Defy Bane, and you shall die."
; 3
The skull intones, "Know this, defiler. Bane did \
not perish at Tantras at Torm's hands. Bane was \
the victor that day, and he shall return."
; 4
The skull hisses, "Know this, defiler. You are \
not long for this world. By entering this shrine \
of Bane, you walk the path of a sacrifice."
; 5
The columbs flanking you hold golden skulls with \
living eyes. They watch you intently.
; 6
From where you now stand you can see the symbol \
of the dead god Bane at either end of the room.
; 7
This door seems out of place. The wall here looks\
as though it has been excavated and the style of \
the door does not match the others.
; 8
A sign: Beware the Banedeath, Fool. Leave these \
halls. You are ill prepared for the fate you may \
earn!
; 9 Cleric only
You have heard of the Banedeath. The god Cyric \
launched a campaigne or something to slay the few\
remaining priests of Bane.
; 10
This cavern looks natural but the passage is not.\
You would guess that someone tunneled into the \
temple from here. Why?
; 11
The water flows through this grate and then it \
vanishes. Obviously there is some sort of magic \
at work here.
; 12
You can barely see beyond this grate. It looks as\
though the tunnel has been deliberately sealed. \
; 13
You recognize the symbol of the mad god Cyric. He\
would have to be a bit on the insane side to want\
a shrine here, but it is best not to think that.
; 14
As you near the altar you feel an evil presence \
form around you. You quickly glance around the \
area but spot nothing out of the ordinary.
; 15
You remove the gem from your pack and carefully \
raise it toward the symbol of Cryric. Nothing out\
of the ordinary happens.
; 16
It does not look like this area has seen much \
use. Your passage stirs tiny dust motes from the \
floor, sending them swirling into the air.
; 17
This room is very hot, the air humid and hard to \
breathe. You immediately begin to sweat.
; 18
This room is rather cold, the air sharp and crisp\
in your chest. You feel chills along your exposed
skin.
; 19
This room is temperate, the air dusty and with an\
earthy smell about it.
; 20 Cleric only
Rooms dedicated to the elements confused you at \
first. However, you remeber that with the death \
of Bane, wizards took over the priesthood.
; 21
A faint whisper: "You seek death in the shadow of\
Bane's gaze, defiler? You shall have it. You will\
become a vessel of pain for Bane's pleasure."
; 22
There are several undead holding a conversation \
here until you interrupt them.
; 23
A rather impressive statue of Bane. It is a bit \
unnerving to look at.
; 24
Unlike the other skulls you have seen here, the \
eye sockets of this skull have been carefully \
hollowed.
; 25
You poke the skull in the eyes with two fingers. \
The statue of Bane slides to the side revealing a\
hidden passage.
; 26
You know enough of Bane to know he was the former\
god of hatred, tyranny and strife. He was killed \
by the God Torm during the Time of Troubles.
; 27
Banite priests were driven underground after the \
Time of Troubles. Hunted by the priests of Cyric,\
the Banites were forced into hiding to survive.
; 28
You find yourself in a long hallway that leads up\
into darkness. The air is terribly still, and the\
paving stones of the floor are blanketed in dust.
; 29
You have found the main shrine to Bane. Before \
you stands a baneguard who eagerly motions for \
you to approach.
; 30
There are four grates in the floor here. Looking \
down you can see the temple floor far below.
; 31
Approaching the baneguard you notice a few items \
of interst on the altar. This is a temple of bane\
so you may not want them. But then again...
