Madden NFL (TM) 97 Football

INSTALLING THE GAME

-From Windows 95, choose RUN from the Start Menu and type
D:\SETUP.EXE then click OK (substitute the correct letter
of your CD drive if other than 'D:').

Install Shield will guide you through the install process
and create a program group and icon in the start menu under
the group EA Sports. Select the group and icon to run the
game. Check to make sure DOSSTART.BAT is loading your real
mode drivers if you get an error.

See your Windows 95 documentation for more details on the
   DOSSTART.BAT file.

-From DOS, type D:\INSTALL then press ENTER (substitute the
correct letter of your CD drive if other than 'D:'). This
will not create a program group or icons in Windows 95.
To run the game in DOS, at the 'C:\' prompt, type:

     CD\MADDEN then press ENTER
     MADDEN then press ENTER

This will run Madden NFL 97 and it's hardware setup utility.

MICROSOFT MEMORY MANAGER (EMM386.EXE) USERS

-We recommend that you do not use EMM386.EXE with Madden NFL
(TM) 97. If you run into any problems when running the game,
remark out this line in your CONFIG.SYS file. See below for
   instructions.

-If you use EMM386.EXE for memory management and have only
8 MB of memory, you may need to disable EMM in the CONFIG.SYS
configuration file on your hard drive to get enough memory
free (minimum 7000K XMS free, 400K conventional memory free).

     From the DOS prompt, type:

     EDIT C:\CONFIG.SYS then press ENTER

In this file, type REM followed by a space before the line
     that loads EMM386.EXE. For example:

     REM C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE

ATI MACH 32/64 VIDEO CARD USERS

-If you have one of these cards, you must run the VESA driver
supplied by your video card manufacturer before running the
game. Without this driver, your game may hang at startup with
   a black screen.

-You may experience redraw problems when running the game with
these video cards. To fix this problem, you must install an
updated version of the file VESA.MGD.

   From the C:\MADDEN directory, type:

	CD\MADDEN\VESADRV then press ENTER
	ATI then press ENTER
(this will install the ATI driver and return you to DOS)

	-or type:

	NOATI then press ENTER
(this will remove the ATI driver and return you to DOS)

NETWORK DRIVERS

-You need an IPX/SPX driver loaded in memory to run LAN network
   games

-To get your real-mode network drivers to load when you click on
the Madden NFL 97 icon, make sure that your DOSSTART.BAT file
contains the lines to load your particular network drivers.

   e.g. c:\mouse\mouse.exe
         c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /D:cdrom

         cd\nwclient
         call c:\nwclient\startnet.bat

IMPORTANT!: This WILL NOT WORK ON every machine. You must point
to the appropriate drivers on your hard drive to
              make this work.

-You can also create a shortcut to the C:\MADDEN\MADDEN.BAT file
and edit the shortcut to reboot your system into DOS with a
customized AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. Consult your Windows 95
documention for details on using this feature of Windows 95.

Contact your Network administrator or Hardware Manufacturer for
   further details on real-mode drivers.
