Training flight example.

Start the simulation.

The first time you run the simulation you should calibrate and then save your
joystick settings as follows. Press ALT C and a calibration box will appear.
Follow the instructions in the box. Once you have calibrated your joystick,
press the ESC key and a menu will appear, select 'Save As Default' and your
settings will be saved.

Scan the cockpit to learn what the various gauges are for. There is also an
executable image of the cockpit, just type cockpit in the game directory to
view the cockpit control layout.

Press the E key to turn engine power to 0% so that you can test the navigation
instruments.
Press the / key (Fwd Slash) and note that the box marked ADF on the
instrument panel, will now show the figure 100, this is your home airport
ADF frequency. The ADF gauge will point right to the ADF beacon, which is
located on top of the control tower. When you tune into an ADF
(auto direction finder) also known as an NDB (non-directional beacon)
the ADF needle will point at the beacon. To fly to the tuned beacon,
simply turn in the direction the needle is pointing, until the needle
points straight ahead.

Press the ; key, this will select the first VOR beacon the frequency of which
is 112.95 Now press the [ key to tune your VOR instrument, so that the
vertical needle is centred in the display. There will be two digital readings
on the gauge. The top readout is the heading you would have to fly on,
to reach the VOR, the bottom digital readout is the reciprocal heading.

If all of this seems a bit complex, it gets easy with practice.

OK hit E to turn the engine up to idle power. Press the S key three times for
full flaps. Press 0 key on top number row, to set full power and you will
start to travel down the runway. At 65 Knots airspeed pull back gently on the
joystick and you will takeoff. Press G to raise the landing gear, then S to
retract the flaps.

OK now try a few rolls a loops to get used to the very fluid flight model.
If you have been flying 'arcade' style simulations the flight model will feel
a bit strange at first. Be assured however, that this is what flying really
feels like (minus the g forces of course) the flight model is VERY accurate.

This 21 day evaluation copy only has a few ADF and VOR's and three
destinations to fly to. The registered version has many more navigation
beacons, and lot's of interesting sites to visit.

Look out for DC3's flying cargo around the area. Also there is a military
airbase to the North East. You might see some action over that way!
There are SU-27's F-5's F-16's and F-14's on active patrol. Nothing will
attack you, just don't fly into any bullets in the area!
