Technical Notes

Wooden Ships & Iron Men does not require the use of EMS memory, so make
sure you have full XMS configured. (On the EMM386 line in your config.sys,
it should say NOEMS).

Third party memory managers such as QEMM, 386MAX, or "cloaking"
software may sometimes cause problems. If you are using one of these
applications and encounter intermittent graphics problems or crashes,
try temporarily disabling them.

If you are using cloaking software for the mouse, you may experience
lockups in the logbook in the campaign game. Disabling the cloaking
software and loading the mouse driver normally will eliminate them.

If the program is having trouble detecting your video card correctly, you
can start the program with the following parameters:

wsim /m - Forces detection of video card memory
wsim /v - Uses chipset instructions for VESA support

You can also use the switch "/s" to run the game without music.

You may use any combination of these switches.
