Instructions to view the manual
-------------------------------

FROM DOS:

1.  Insert the Hardball 5 CD into the CD-ROM tray and change drive 
    designations to access the CD-ROM drive.  Example: D:\ <enter>

2.  From the root directory, change to the MANUAL directory
    by typing: CD \MANUAL <enter>

3.  Change to the ACRODOS directory by typing: CD ACRODOS <enter>

4.  Type INSTALL <enter> from the ACRODOS directory and follow the on-screen
    instructions.

5.  To access manual files from ACRODOS, select 'Open' from the file menu at
    the top of the screen.

6.  Change drive selection from the hard drive to the CD-ROM drive and select
    the 'MANUAL' directory from the CD-ROM drive.

7.  Choose to view either the CONTROLS.PDF or MANUAL.PDF files from the
    MANUAL directory.

8.  For technical support assistance regarding the ACRODOS reader, refer to
    the README.TXT file included in the \MANUAL\ACRODOS directory in CD-ROM.


FROM Windows '95:

1.  Insert the Hardball 5 CD into the CD-ROM tray.

2.  Click on the START icon from the Windows '95 desktop and select 'Run'
    from the START menu.

3.  Type in <CD-ROM drive>:\ MANUAL\ACROWIN\ACROREAD

4.  Press <enter> and follow the on-screen instructions.

5.  To access the manual files, double click on the drive icon that
    corresponds to the CD-ROM drive and double click on the MANUAL folder.

6.  Double click on either the 'CONTROLS' or 'MANUAL' files to view game
    instructions.
   
7.  Double click on 'Help' from Acrobat Reader to access technical support 
    information.

PLEASE NOTE:

ACRODOS and ACROWIN recognize the manual cover as page 1 and the credits page
as page 2.  These two pages are not documented in the index with page numbers.
To find the pages of reference which correctly correspond in the
manual, add two pages to the desired topic from the manual index.

Example:  Documents appearing on page 29 as stated in the manual index will
          appear on page 31 while accessing the manual files from the
          Acrobat Reader.

According to the manual, there are two leagues that the user can choose.
This is a special version of HardBall 5. The only league that is accessible  
is the MLBPA.  The Legends League, as well as all the Old Time Stadiums have
been removed from this version.

New Features
------------
Some additional features were added to HardBall 5 after the manual went to
print:

PLAY STYLE - page 29
One-pitch mode is now an option in user-managed games.

MANAGER OPTIONS - page 30
When the computer is controlling your fielding, you can override and take
control by pressing Button 1 whenever you want to jump into the action.

ON THE FIELD - page 36
The baserunner windows display the name and speed rating of the man on base.
Press F3 to toggle this feature on and off.
Press Button 2 to display pitcher and batter player cards.

EDITING A PLAYER - page 50
Highlight the "Picture" option and press enter to disable digitized name and
player photo.
