Running LunaTicks under Windows 3.1(tm)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LunaTicks has not been written to run within Windows 3.1, however it is
possible on most machines.
(NOTE : Freeware version runs direct from your HDD, so change any references
to your CD-ROM drive to your Hard drive. CDTEMP is not required for Freeware
versions of the game)
To run LunaTicks from within Windows 3.1, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the CDTEMP variable has been added to your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file. To operate under Windows 3.1, LunaTicks must be run direct from
CD, without using the partial install option. To add this line to
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, simply open NOTEPAD, load the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file, and add the line:
		SET CDTEMP=C:\
If you have no AUTOEXEC.BAT file, create one. Like DOS Windows will run this
file while bootup is in progress. All machines HAVE a C:\ directory. If you
wish to use another directory, use it instead.
2. Once this has been done, you will have to reboot your system to
ensure the change takes place.
3. Create a PIF file called LUNA.PIF. Give it the following properties:-
        Program Name : LUNA.EXE
        Startup Directory : E:\   (NOTE: if luna.exe is in a different
                                   directory on CD-ROM, use that instead!)
        Video Memory : Low Graphics or High Graphics (if SVGA mode is used)
        Memory : 512Kb required, 640 desired.
        EMS Memory : 8192Kb required, 8192 desired.
        XMS Memory : 0Kb required, 0Kb desired.
        Display usage : Full Screen.
        Execution : Exclusive.
                Advanced....
        EMS memory Locked : Yes
        Uses High Memory Area : Yes
        EMS memory locked : Yes
        XMS memory locked : No
        Lock application memory : Optional (seems to make no difference)
        leave everthing else as is.
4. Now to run the game, run the SETUP program as normal, and then double
click on the LUNA.PIF file you created. You CANNOT start LunaTicks from inside
SETUP under Windows! See below for starting SERIAL/IPX games under Windows. We
have included an icon to use from Windows menu. NOTE: If game will not run
with Sound Blaster (tm) enabled, you may need to restart windows WITHOUT
loading the windows driver for your Sound Blaster card.
When run in this manner, LunaTicks may be less stable than normal. Some
things you can do to improve this are turning off music or selecting a lower
mixing rate by running the SETUP program, running LunaTicks from a DOS prompt
window with the same properties as above, and ensuring that there are no other
programs running when you start LunaTicks (even programs such as screen-savers
can interfere when not actually active - they still have a timer process
running which will interrupt LunaTicks). Be aware of things like network drive
servers etc etc. These can cause BIG problems. LunaTicks will run on an 8Mb
memory machine under Windows, but the more memory you have, the better things
are. We recommend 16Mb for stable performance under Windows.
If at all possible, it is recommended that you run LunaTicks from
outside Windows.
Starting Network Games
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since you cannot launch LunaTicks from SETUP, You'll have to use command line
switches.

Serial
------

LUNA -serial -port XX -Iam YY (XX= serial port number, YY=Player number)

IPX
---

LUNA -ipx -Iam XX -numplayers YY -socket ZZ

(XX=Player number, YY=number of IPX players in game, ZZ=Socket number.
NOTE: -socket is optional. Use only if default socket fails or is busy.)

in both modes, -spy XX is available. (XX=1, spy, XX=2, Spectator)

Player 0 (Host) cannot be a Spy or Spectator!

The stability of a network game under Windows 3.X is uncertain!
