30 October 1996

This document details some of the additions and modifications to
Music Works since version 2.1.2.

Keyboard entry of objects
=========================

Notes, rests and ornaments can now be entered into the composition
using the cursor keys and a number of hot keys. To properly make use
of these facilities, the palette corresponding to the object to be
inserted should be visible. Following are the keys that can be used:

Left arrow	Move cursor left one division if snap is on, one tick if snap is off
Right arrow	Move cursor right one division if snap is on, one tick if snap is off
Up arrow	Move cursor up
Down arrow	Move cursor down
Tab Move cursor right one division regardless of snap setting
Shift-Tab	Move cursor left one division regardless of snap setting
N Scroll through note types in the note palette
D Scroll through note dot types in the note palette
A Scroll through note accidental in the note palette
E Scroll through note accent (effect) in the note palette
F Toggle note flip in the note palette
H Toggle note head type in the note palette
R Scroll through rest types in the rest palette
O Scroll through ornaments in the ornament palette
Space bar	Add the currently highlighted object at the cursor location
B Add a semibreve at the cursor location
M Add a minim at the cursor location
C Add a crotchet at the cursor location
Q Add a quaver at the cursor location
S Add a semiquaver at the cursor location

Note also that N, R or O will activate the most recently selected
object in their respective palettes, if the palette is not currently
active. For example, if you have been adding notes, and wish to add
a rest, pressing R will highlight the last rest used from the rest
palette. Pressing R again, will scroll through the rests in the
rest palette.

When the cursor is moved off the screen using either the tab or arrow
keys, the screen will now follow the cursor left and right as well as
up and down.

Double sharp symbol
===================

A new font is provided with version 2.2 which allows support for the
double sharp symbol. This is accessed through the accidental button in
the note palette in the usual way.

Bar numbering
=============

Automatic bar numbering is now provided through the Preferences dialog
box. Bar numbers are displayed and printed above the barline of the first
visible stave of each system.

Display notes while recording
=============================

By default, notes are now displayed on screen as they are recorded from
a MIDI device.
