PERFECT ASSASSIN PC-CDROM README
Revised 18 July 1997

Windows 95 users
================
Win95 users, if you have trouble running the game, please ensure your CD
drive and mouse are accessible to DOS, with the correct drivers being
loaded, any screen saver is disabled and there are no other programs
running, including e-mail. If you still have trouble running the game,
or need help in getting the CD drive or mouse to work under DOS, see
"Troubleshooting MS-DOS Programs" in Windows Help.

Under certain circumstances it is possible for sound effects not to be
played when running the game under Windows 95. If your Windows sound scheme
has a very long sound effect attached to the Open Program event, Windows may
retain use of the sound card for a sufficient period of time that the game
program assumes the sound card is unavailable and does not play sound
effects. If this happens you can overcome the problem in one of two ways:

Either:
1. Disable the Open Program sound effect (or choose a much shorter one) by
clicking on Start, Settings. Open Control Panel and click on Sounds. Scroll
down the list and select Open Program. Under Sounds click on the Name
drop-down dialog and scroll to the top. Select (None), then click on OK.
Then run the game as normal.

Or:
2. Run the game in DOS mode. See Windows 95's own Help system if you need
assistance with this.

Creating a Windows 95 Shortcut
==============================
To create a convenient shortcut to Perfect Assassin on your desktop, proceed
as follows:
1. Open the folder in which you installed Perfect Assassin, and right-click
on the blue and white rectangular Pass file (Pass.exe if you have disabled
"Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered" in
View/Options.../View). Note that you must right-click on the blue and white
rectangular icon, NOT either of the Pass icons with a picture of Charon.
Continue to hold down the right mouse button as you drag the icon onto your
desktop.
2. Click on "Create Shortcut Here" on the context menu which appears.
3. You should now have a shortcut icon of Charon on your desktop.
4. Note that if you re-install the game to a different location on your hard
drive the shortcut will no longer work and you will need to either create a
new one or edit the properties of the existing one. See Windows Help for
instructions on how to do this.

Gravis UltraSound users
=======================
This game requires UltraMid to be loaded for Gravis UltraSound support. You
may experience slightly longer loading times than for other sound devices as
the instrument patches are loaded to suit individual pieces of music. The
time sacrifice should be more than made up for by the instrument quality,
especially if you configured UltraMid to use 16-bit patches.

Pro Audio Spectrum users
========================
This game will work with a PAS in SoundBlaster emulation mode. On some
cards the music may be very quiet while effects are quite loud. Typing the
following command in your PAS utilities directory and pressing ENTER should
correct the problem.

PAS SET OUTPUT MIXER FM TO 99
